CINDERFORD TOWN O ROMULUS 3
By Paul Webb
Cinderford were in truth ultimately well beaten by a big, powerful and determined Romulus side at the Causeway today. Lee Smith shot wide early on for Cinderford while Walker’s free kick for the visitors saw Munday head straight at Ben John. Campbell sent one effort wide of the Town goal then neatly got between the home centre halves but John produced an excellent save. Scott Wilson’s break should have opened up a chance for Town but his cross was behind Matt Barnes who unable to adjust sent his shot wide. Wilson then produced a superb 25 yard drive that clipped the crossbar with the keeper stranded. Dean Lee then set up Lee Smith whose shot was saved at the second attempt. Munday was lucky to escape with a yellow card after clattering into Lee Smith and a lively half concluded with Francis heading wide when well placed.

Romulus took the lead on 47 minutes when the imposing Nathan Jackson easily shrugged off his marker Greg Lewis and fired home. John then denied the towering Jackson with an alert stop and Greg Lewis completed the clearance from Campbell’s follow up. On 68 minutes O’Callaghan doubled the visitors lead with a low drive and the striker should have claimed his second minutes later but headed wide. Trialist Ray completed the scoring on 77 minutes giving John no chance with a powerful shot. The home side had been second best since half time but could have snatched a consolation goal late on. Despite being held in the penalty area Sommers produced a neat lay off to Camm who lashed his shot over the bar. Town play host to Bishop’s Sutton on Tuesday 31st July and Chippenham Town on Saturday.4th August.
