Town do Mangos Double

Town do Mangos Double

Mangotsfield United FC 1 v Cinderford Town FC 3

By Paul Webb

Cinderford started well with some neat passing football but went behind when Mangotsfield mounted their first real attack. Rendell’s surging run down the left saw his pin point cross find Page whose powerful header evaded the diving Harris. Page and Rendell caused Town problems with their pace and movement, the latter wasting a good chance to double Mangotsfield’s advantage. Town however deservedly levelled on 26 minutes when Colbourne up ended Mc Cootie in the area and Cornwall stylishly converted the penalty. Mc Cootie came agonisingly close with a fine individual effort, while Mangotsfield’s Rendell produced an acrobatic overhead kick well saved by Harris.

Early pressure by Mangotsfield brought no reward before with the linesman flagging for a foul by Town, play continued and Mc Cootie was felled in the area by keeper Chris Astley who received a straight red card. Referee Morris after consulting with his linesman pointed again to the spot and Cornwall nonchantly beat Hoyle the stand in goalkeeper. Town wrapped up the points when Greg Lewis ushered his close range effort into the net. Mangotsfield to their credit refused to lie down and Rendell and Keats kept Harris alert in the visitor’s goal. Andy Lewis was inches wide with a skilful lob while Lee was twice denied by good handling by Hoyle. A good performance and three well earned points keep Town pushing for a possible play off slot.
