Cinderford Town FC 5 Bishop’s Cleeve FC 1
By Paul Webb
Cinderford advanced to the next round of the Red Insure Cup with a surprisingly comfortable victory over their local rivals at The Causeway last night. Hoyle struck the bar early on for Cleeve before Cinderford created a number of good chances Evans, Greg Lewis, Smith and O’Sullivan all going close to the opening goal. Town did go in front on 28 minutes when a smart move was finished off by Norris who evaded his marker to tuck the ball home. Greenhouse produced a fine save from Bird and did well to clear a goal line scramble under pressure from Lewis. Tambling then skipped past a static home defence but was unfortunate to strike the post not the back of the net

Norris put Town two up on 48 minutes with a neat touch from Lee’s pinpoint cross. Greenhouse did well to foil O’Sullivan but on 51 minutes Lee got his name on the score sheet clinically despatching his drive past the keeper. Not for the first time this season Cinderford were producing neat, pacy, skilful approach work orchestrated in midfield by Bird, Evans and Lee. On 57 minutes Norris’s firm strike was parried and the ever alert Smith popped home the rebound. The goal of the game came two minutes later with a sublime long range strike from the impressive Bradley Norris to complete his hat trick. Sommers and O’Sullivan could have added further goals for Town, but Cleeve’s Tambling deservedly pulled one back smartly lifting the ball over Pierre’s head. Michael Davis forced a fine save from Pierre late on but Town were worthy winners. Next up for Cinderford a visit from Tiverton this Saturday kick off 3pm.
