Merthyr Town FC V Cinderford Town FC
A bright start by Merthyr saw a Dorrian free kick fall for Williams who missed a clear cut opportunity. Merthyr’s early pressure and impressive work rate saw them rewarded on 16 minutes when Ben John under pressure lost possession of a cross and Marcus Griffiths was on hand to score. Referee Veater waving aside strong Town appeals for a foul on the keeper. Cinderford almost when two down when Prosser beat John but Peckham cleared off the line.
Mc Cootie then produced Town’s best moment thus far with a superb run but his cross saw Haines contrive to miss a great chance. Lewis Sommers then released Andy Lewis who rounded the keeper but ran out of room. Shepherd created a good chance for Griffiths which was spurned. With half time approaching a crude shove by Thomas on Haines saw Town awarded a penalty which Whittington calmly despatched.

Sommers met a pin point Archer cross but his header was off target then an Armitage centre led to Prosser squandering a golden opportunity to re take the lead for Merthyr. Town moved back downfield and a Lee free kick was headed goal wards by Sommers but Whittington diving full length couldn’t nod it in. Shortly afterwards Whittington was carried off after a collision with Williams forcing a Cinderford reshuffle to accommodate substitute Dale Evans. A fine Sommers cross narrowly eluded the on rushing Tait and a Dale Evans free kick landed on the roof of the net as Town tried to conjure up a winner. The replay takes place at the Causeway on Tuesday 20th September at 19.45pm.
