Hello to anyone dating that far back (the old wooden clubhouse). Names I see that I know are Mike Lee (a foo beers) Nick Alway, and I have met Dave Thomas and Del Davies from that era in the USA. I think I have an old picture with Colin Pow and Vic Washtell and a couple of the Woodford guys having a beer on Clapham Common after a Rugby netball game, and maybe another pic with Dave Thomas and Gordon Rowe enjoying a halftime citrus on Hampstead Heath if anyone is interested. Glad to see the team doing pretty well in the more exalted surroundings of National SE 3. Where did this Barnes team appear from? I don't think they even existed back in those days. Anyway all the best for now. Keep it up. JB. |

Jimmy, Good to hear from . Mike Lee ( El Presidente ) , Doug Stuart and I are very much still around - every week - and we see Del Davies at the ex-players' lunches. Where are you based exactly - we will happily take a non-playing sub in dollars! Barnes did actually exist in those days - you will be amused to know that they were then called Harrodians : they are the nouvelle riche rather than the aristocracy of the game but have done well. They share a distinction with CS Rugby 1863 of numerous promotions and only ever having been relegated once! Sadly we have news that Gordon Rowe passed away relatively recently. Do keep in touch! |

Hey Nick, thank heavens there are still a (foo) old soaks around. A bit disappointing there are not more. Sad to hear about G., but I suppose we are now at that stage of life when that kind of news will be more prevalent. I would be delighted to help with some finance, but for the moment, not possible due to world economic mess. I have been living in Mexico now for nearly half my life, at present in the state of Oaxaca, and running a small textile mill, which I was operating with my partner (whose previous home must be almost visible from the club house), until he passed away two years ago. We make high quality rugs, bedspreads, throws and various equestrian products, using wool, mohair, alpaca, yak hair, and silk occasionally, and therein lies the problem. All these fibres have to be imported, and getting more and more expensive, thanks to the Chinese. But I will struggle on. Are any of the current crew in DHSS or whatever it is called now? I am now 66 and am probably due some kind of reduced pension, which would sure help. Any info would be useful. If it is anything reasonable I will donate the first month or two to the club. Haven't had a chance to look up those old pix yet, but have not forgotten. Say hello to Doug and Mike, and any others that may appear. You are welcome to pass on my email address. Hope the team keeps up the good work. Do you still Easter tour? |
