Tonight the first team travel to Wallingford Town AFC for their latest pre season friendly. The North Berks League side were formed in 1995 from a merger between Hellenic League side Wallingford Town founded in 1922 and Wallingford United founded in 1934.

The Hithercroft facility has much changed since their Hellenic League days but several of Clanfield's management structure will remember many a decent game between the two clubs in the past.

The author particularly recalls a smash and grab 1-0 victory for Clanfield under the management of Dave Burns and John Mullens in 1991. Victory was quite sweet as Wallingford were the big money men of the division at that time under the leadership of Shaun Bradford.
