Off to a flyer in the Youth Vase

Clanfield U18 played their first ever FA Youth Vase match against Bracknell Town on 21 September 2017.

The vistors came to Clanfield off the back of winning 5-1 against Highmoor Ibis in the previous round and played some very neat passing football, which suited Clanfield's sstyle of play very well. Both teams were intent to play, but a silly free kick by Clanfield produced the first goal after about 15 minutes for Bracknell. This was compounded after about 25 minutes when another free kick produced Bracknell's second after a goal keeping error in the damp conditions. Clanfield had much the better play and were denied by a superb save from the Bracknell keeper, low down to his left from a fierce shot from Zak Oliver. Clanfield were then denied by the post on the stroke of half time after a strike from Finlay Heritage.

The team talk at half time was apparently very calm with both managers telling the players to carry on the way they were due to the exquisite play from the home side and the goals would come. Indeed the first came on about 55 minutes when Finlay Heritage was played through the middle and took his chance well to slot under the keeper as he tried to close Finlay down. The second came from Zak Oliver on about 65 minutes when he cut in from the left and shot past the keeper into the far corner. There was enough time to get the winner in normal time, but it wasn't to come.

Into extra time and again, Zak Oliver was able to score past the fantastic Bracknell keeper to make it 3-2. With that Bracknell had no choice, but to push for the equaliser and Clanfield took full advantage when Travis O'Connor chipped a delightful shot over the Bracknell keeper and just under the crossbar into the far corner.

The second half of extra time brought Clanfield's fifth when Brendan Neale put a fantastic shot in from the left wing which left the keeper helpless and the shot cannoned into the net off of the back post.

A great win against a great footballing team in Bracknell; we wish Bracknell luck for the rest of the season in all competitions and hope we may meet again before too long.
