History
If you want a club where you turn up, play your game, shower and leave, then we’re probably not the club for you. If however, you want a club where you can turn up, catch up with your mates, play your game, have a drink with your opposite number and have some fun with your team mates and their family and friends, then we’re exactly the club for you.
We run sides for minis up to seniors, including midis and colts. Most of the time we win, some of the time we come second, but all of the time we have fun. We welcome players of all abilities and experience. Whether you’re a 7 year old novice, or a 45 year old hardened veteran, we’ll welcome you with open arms and guarantee you a game.
The club is run by its committee of volunteers who meet every month to discuss club issues and ensure its smooth running. This group of men and women range in age from early twenties to late sixties, ensuring all groups within the club get a voice.
The club has developed an enviable reputation for touring, social events, community work and playing some pretty decent rugby! Over recent years the club has toured to France, Portugal, Holland, Ireland, Scotland, while recent social events have included the sell out pantomime ‘Up The Orinoco In Search Of The Ossett,’ ‘Prop Idol,’ ‘Oompah Night’ and numerous themed fancy dress discos. In its 40th year, the club even attempted a world record for a match played on the steepest pitch in the world – we are still waiting to hear back from the Guinness Book people!
So if you, or someone you know, fancy joining a traditional village club, to play for or support, come to Claverdon RFC. We’ll have a place and a pint waiting for you.
