On a gorgeous sunny day, Grimsby hosted Cleethorpes in a great local Derby.

The first of two matches captained by Lloyd Vauvert, saw great defence by Cleethorpes who managed to turn the ball over by taking Grimsby to a full set of seven tags on three occaisions. Cleethorpes showed excellent support play, in particular by Joel Ridall who was constantly at the shoulder of every ball carrier! Well done to Jack Seward, who is new to the team and put in a great effort in defence and attack, and also scored his first try. A great win today by Clee, the score being Grimsby 12, Cleethorpes 14. Our trys were scored by Dan Stevens (1), Joel Ridall (5), Jack Seward (1), Lloyd Vauvert (2), Alex Cleater (1), Declan Harris (2) and Matthew Brown (2).

The Second game saw Grimsby step up their attack and exploited Cleethorpes defence. Congratulations to Ollie Martinelli for a terrific run and despite crossing the try line, showed great team spirit, passing it to Joel Ridall, allowing him to score the try. There was some great defence by Alex Cleater who managed to stop the direct runners. Also to Matthew Brown for his trademark diving defence. Dan Stevens managed to collect the ball after a Grimsby mistake and ran the full length of the pitch, chased hard by Grimsby, scoring a try to end the game. Some great tags today by Jake Howden, Declan Harris and Ollie Martinelli. Once again, some great support running by Jake Howden almost resulting in a couple of trys. Another great win for Cleethorpes, the score being Grimsby 10, Cleethorpes 16. Our trys were scored by Lloyd Vauvert (5),Matthew Brown (4), Joel Ridall (5), Alex Cleater (1) and Dan Stevens (1).

Man of the match went to Joel Ridall for his outstanding support play.

Well done Cleethorpes, a great morning of rugby!
