The Owls continued their impressive league form with a 2-0 win over Market Drayton Town on Saturday.

Clee made a bright start to the match and in the second minute almost went ahead, as Taylor played Cooper through on goal, however his effort was well saved by the goalkeepers legs to keep the scores level.

The Owls did take the lead on the 6th minute, after some great work from Davis on the left, who then pulled the ball back to Dickens who fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Market Drayton almost responded immediately, as a ball into the box caused the clee defence issues, and was almost knocked in by Market Drayton, however Higton managed to scramble the ball off the line.

On the 10th minute, Higton was called into action again, as Market Drayton came forward from the left before the Drayton striker’s effort was well saved by Higton with his legs at the near post.

Just before the 20th minute mark, the Owls almost doubled their lead, as Oglesby cut onto his left foot inside the box before curling an effort towards the top corner, however the goalkeeper made a great save to pluck it out of the corner.

The Owls had the ball in the back of the net again shortly after the half hour mark, as Oglesby squared the ball to Liam Davis who tapped the ball into the back of the open net, however the goal was ruled out for offside.

In the 34th minute, Higton was called into action again, this time as a good cross came in from the left was headed towards the top corner from close range, however Higton reacted superbly to keep the ball out of the net.

Immediately after Higton’s heroics, Flett almost scored for the Owls, after he volleyed the ball towards the top right corner of the net, however the Market Drayton goalkeeper did brilliantly to turn the ball over for a corner.

Towards the end of the half, the rain began to pour down, making the surface very slippery for the players. Despite the conditions, the Owls pushed forward again and this time it was Davis who went close, after connecting to Oglesby’s cross, although his shot was easy for the goalkeeper to save.

Forward Andy Taylor was unfortunately forced to come off at half time with an injury, so the Owls made their first substitution as striker Luke Aldrich replaced him.

The second half contained a lot fewer chances than the first, as the rain continued to impact the game, with some mistimed challenges from both sides resulting in bookings for both teams.

Market Drayton did go close in the 70th minute, as some great work from the left hand side resulted in them being through on goal but fortunately for the Owls, the effort went wide of the goal.

In the 76th minute, the Owls made it 2-0, thanks to a brilliant strike from Dickens. The midfielder latched onto a loose ball in the middle of the park, before firing the ball into the top corner of the net from around 30 yards out to score his and the Owls’ 2nd of the day.

Just before the 80th minute of the game, Market Drayton went close to pulling one back, as their number 15 got on the end of a great through ball to be in on goal, however his shot was straight at Higton.

Clee almost scored a 3rd just before the end of the game, as McKay was played in down the left hand side, however his low shot was straight at the goalkeeper.

It was another fantastic result for the Owls, who made it 6 wins out of 6 in the league this season, despite the rainy conditions.
