Cleethorpes Town sent largely a team of fringe players and younger player who will be used in the reserves to Rase Park for the fixture against Market Rasen.
The players some of them playing together for the first time showed great hunger for the ball and passed the ball around well and created opening after opening but a mainly through a series of wasteful finishing in front of goal the final score was only 1 – 0 to Cleethorpes Town.
The first half saw Cleethorpes in complete control with the only goal of the game being scored by James Deeming who fired a shot into the roof of the net this was not before a host of chances where wasted. Beattie in the Cleethorpes goal was a virtual spectator with only one save to make that being a fine save to his left in the middle of the goal. Chances continued to be wasted by Cleethorpes as the half time whistle blew.
The second half saw Market Rasen come out with a bit more purpose and they did press forward more but despite this Beattie had little to do. The other end saw various opportunities spurned but Beattie had to be at his best as a bizarre penalty award was given for what only the referee will know for, but justice was done as Beattie saved the penalty well.
All in all a fine run out only marred by the poor finishing up front with today’s game being a true 1 – 0 hammering if there was ever one.
