Cleethorpes Town 4-4 Belper Town
Comeback earns draw
Cleethorpes Town welcomed Belper Town to Bradley FDC on Wednesday evening for the second time within a month following the strange postponement due to an apparent waterlogged pitch. The game went ahead tonight and Cleethorpes had the first opportunity as Flett whipped in a free kick that the visitors keeper managed to hold on to the ball. Then Belper started to put the Cleethorpes goal under threat as Miles Fenty making his first appearance of the season. Belper went close as a shot went wide of the upright, then Fenty was in action as he pushed out and effort from a corner.
It was no surprise from the next corner Belper won the ball into the box as the attempt in the area beat Fenty as the ball found the bottom corner. Cleethorpes then went up the other end as Winn shot is straight at the Belper keeper, Danny North was given a yellow card a harsh one that certainly incensed the forward. Then things got worse as a free header in box sees the ball nestle in the net as the visitors went 2 goals up.
North then has a shot from distance but is well held, but things get worse as a corner is not cleared and Belper were certainly enjoying the game as the went 3 up. Cleethorpes were stunned and it would require a comeback of big proportions if the Owls where to get anything from tonight's game as the half time whistle was blown.
Cleethorpes started well and within 3 minutes of the restart sees Danny North pull a goal back and it was clear the players must of been told some home truths at half time as there was that extra energy in the play that the supporters where getting behind the owls, which was helping the players. We had already seen Mckay come on at half time for Winn who was forced off due to injury, the second substitute saw Bloomer replace Coleman.
There was a flair up as the passion of the game took over as 2 Belper plays and Liam Dickens all shown a yellow cards as things settled down again. Cleethorpes then struck to reduce the arrears as Dickens cross finds Cooper in the box as the ball ends up in the net as the scores is 2-3 but Belper struck as the attacker finds space in the Cleethorpes area to restore there 2 goal cushion. Cleethorpes then had claims for a penalty turned away as Flett is brought down in the area much to the disgruntlement of the supporters. Richardson then replaced Davis as Cleethorpes searched for the 3rd goal and that came soon after Flett freekick beats the keeper to set up a tense final 5 minutes as the owls looked to earn a draw.
Flett then saw his goal bound effort deflect over for a corner, then Jack Richardson rescued a point following a fine diving header as Cleethorpes rescued a point after trailing 3-0 at half time.
