MATSON 1ST XV NIL PTS. V CLEVEDON 1ST XV 55PTS.
Clevedon came out of the starting blocks like a bat out of hell, scoring a try in the first few minutes with Dean Ashfield going over after a good handling movement. Kieran Hill converted. Hill then increased the lead with two well struck penalties.At this stage it was one way traffic. A length of the field run by Harley Foley saw him brought down short of the line but Brian Largenton was on hand to go over. Hill converted and then added another penalty. Aaron Rice to score when he battled his way to the line. Hill again kicked the points. A blindside move saw Harry Butland score in the corner and Kieran Hill with an ankle injury. Before the break Harley Foley dribbled his way to the line for a try. Mike Taylor converted. Clevedon led 42 nil at half time.
The second half saw Matson get more into the game with the advantage of playing down the slope and Clevedon's defence was tested but held firm. Taylor kicked two penalties to put the result beyond doubt. Clevedon then used the bench only for young Joe Ford to leave the field shortly after with another ankle injury. The last try of the game went to Clevedon's pack, who were dominant all game and pressured the home pack to collapse and concede a penalty try, which Taylor converted with the last kick of the game. There were good individuals performances from Owen Biggins, Mike Lowis and Lewis Appleby
Head Coach Nick Hill commented 'To nil a side at home is always impressive, the game was won by half time but the lads didn't switch off and I was really pleased with the second half defensive performance.'
