The company are pioneers in the field of crash testing with their Road Blockers, Bollards,Barricades,Drop Arm Gates,Sliding Gates and Crash Beam Barriers having under gone a variety of impact testing and blast testing including the British Standard PAS 68 and the American Standard ASTM F 2656 (supercedes the DoS K12 rating).

The company was formed in the 1980's by a group of engineers all of whom had considerable experience in vehicle control systems. Since its formation the company has evolved and developed into an authority in this specialist area.

The Clevedon Constitutional Club was established in 1893 and in 1897 the Clevedon Constitutional Club Company Ltd was formed.



A centenary certificate confirming that the company was incorporated on 7th April 1897 and continuously registered at Companies House for 100 years may be seen in the entrance hall.



A freehold site was purchased and the present building was constructed on a former orchard and garden by local builder Henry Taylor and opened on Wednesday 2nd February 1898. The prestigious building occupies a commanding position originally facing the railway station and now overlooking the shopping precinct known as Queen's Square.

The front elevation of the building, constructed entirely of freestone, is in the Italian style, impressive, and considered to greatly enhance the town. At the time of opening the membership was reported to be 600, currently it is just under 2,000.

SPORTS BAR

The comfortably furnished Sports Bar features two large screen televisions with the Ultimate Sky Package providing all the sport, including the racing channels. A second box enables members to watch different sporting events at the same time on the second screen. An area within the bar is set aside for darts.



SKITTLE ALLEY

Reputed to be the best Skittle Alley in the area, there is a CCTV system enabling members to view the pins from the scoring end. There are 10 home teams that play regularly from our Skittle Alley weekdays. The alley has seats for 30 persons and there is access to the Club Garden. The Alley which is normally free on weekends is available for private hire.



SNOOKER ROOM

The Snooker Room has three full size tables which are kept in pristine condition. There is a modest fee of just 60p for half an hours play. Yet another benefit of membership.



BALLROOM

The Ballroom which is situated on the first floor has a raised stage and a large bar. Dances are held on Friday and Saturday evenings on a regular basis and a host of other activities including live bands, rock and roll evenings and cabaret nights are held throughout the year. Slimming, Diet, Keep Fit and Yoga clubs use the Ballroom during the week. The Ballroom and Meeting Rooms are available for private hire for special occasions and business meetings. Please contact the Club Secretary or Club Steward for more details. Bona fide charity organisations may use our facilities by arrangement free of charge.



CATERING

Our resident Caterers, D & S Catering, provide an extensive A la Carte lunchtime menu. A special table d’hote two course menu is also available at £7.50 weekdays. Traditional Roasts are served on Sundays and Wednesdays, also on offer are ploughman’s, lite bites, snacks and jacket potatoes. We can cater for up to 100 persons for a three course meal in the Function Room and we have a selection of buffets which can be tailored to your requirements. We have regular monthly Theme Nights offering ethnic cuisine from around the globe. It is self service from the Millennium Lounge where you can choose from around 14 dishes and sample them all for only £7.50. We now provide a special service for local business members and their guests. If you’re pressed for time just phone your order through before 11:00am and you will be served within minutes of arrival. Morning coffee is served from 10:30am. A café au lait and black coffee are just £1.05 each and we have a selection of speciality coffees for only £1.25.



FROM THE BAR

We have a wide range of cask ales, beers, ciders, lagers, wine, spirits and cocktails and most of the popular soft drinks, available from all three bars.



Our Bar Tariff includes, for the connoisseur, locally brewed Butcombe Bitter and Draught Bass both at £2.36, also a variety of guest beers from across the country for £2.21 a pint. Courage Best is just £2.11 a pint and John Smiths costs £2.16 Other beers include Worthington, Tetley and Whitbread for only £2.21. Blackthorn is only £2.36 or for those who prefer it dry we have Taunton Natch for just £2.00 a pint. We also keep Ashton Press for only £2.21. For those who favour larger we have Carling and Fosters for a mere £2.46, Stella Artois is reassuringly expensive at £2.56 and to remind you of your recent days in the sun, San Miguel for £2.56 per pint. Coors Light is our latest edition and is priced at just £2.66 per pint.



Our popular House Wines are just £1.95 a Glass or £8.95 a Bottle. A standard measure of Gordon’s Gin, Famous Grouse, Smirnoff Vodka or Bacardi will cost you only £1.45. Our House Brands are extremely popular at simply £1.85 for a Club Double (50mls).



MEMBERSHIP

Annual membership is £20.00 (£14.00 for persons 65 years and over) but we have a pro rata arrangement which means that if you join during the year you only pay for the remaining months. The joining fee is £10.00. New members are most welcome.



SUMMER OUTINGS

A number of outings are arranged every year to a variety of venues which normally include visits to the south coast, visits to places of interest and shopping trips. See current advertisement in the local press or ring for details.



OTHER ACTIVITIES

Cribbage League meets on Tuesdays in the Millennium Lounge.

Snooker League meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Skittle League weekdays from 8pm.

Club Bingo in the Millennium Lounge alternate Tuesday evenings.

Darts League in the Sports Bar Mondays
