Clevedon Town A Team win tournament

Clevedon Town walking football A and B teams travelled down to the Somerset FA organised tournament at Strode College
Street in confident mood.

A Team Matches
The A team's first game was against Clevedon Town B team in what turned out to be a tricky opener.
From the off the B team defended well and continually frustrated any attempts on their goal. It was not until midway
through the second half that after a couple of substitutions that the breakthrough finally came, when Paul rifled in a
shot that proved to be the only goal of the game.

In the second game the A team played Yeovil B. Learning from their sluggish performance in the opening game Clevedon A
took the game to their opponents . All over the pitch Clevedon dominated the game. Goals started to flood in what turned out to
be a very one sided game. Goals by Keith 3 Paul 2 and Lewis meant a final score of 6 nil.

The third game on paper for the A team, was going to be the toughest against Yeovil A. Again from the off Clevedon pressed well and Yeovil struggled to get the ball into Clevedon's half, and whenever they did defenders Jon and Dave broke up any attack and forced the ball forward.
To their credit Yeovil defended with their lives with some robust tackling and were relieved to hear the final whistle and drawing 0-0.

The fourth and final game was against our "friends" from down the M5 Weston Super Mare. Once again Clevedon attacked from
the off. Some slick passing made an opening for Keith to fire Clevedon in front. The same player added a second from an
acute angle to make it 2-0 at half time. The second half started where the first left off with most of the play in Weston's half. Another good passing movement saw Jeremy get on the score sheet with a low strike. In the last minute of the game Weston were awarded a free kick just outside the area. The ball was passed to Rob who slotted the ball past Ian in the Clevedon goal. That literally was the last kick of the match with final score 3-1.

B Team Matches
The B team's approach was very much about participation and despite this, the performances were very good. The first match was a close affair against our A team who only managed to get their solitary goal late in the second half.
The next game was against Yeovil B - another close game with Yeovil winning by one fluke goal which trickled over the line.
Our 3rd and best performance of the tournament, against the much-fancied Yeovil A team ended in a 0-0 draw, after some brilliant defending and commitment from the team.
Our last game was a little disappointing. After playing 3 games on the trot, people were beginning to tire. Weston got 2 goals in the second half after the B team dominated the first half and looked the more likely to score, but Bob Coles in goal for Weston was on fine form.

Clevedon A team had the best results of the day and though there was no trophy, would have been the overall victors.
