With Ben Gast having broken a finger on Saturday Clevedon were very grateful to be able to call on the services of Jason Mellor for this trip to The Creek to play Bristol Manor Farm.

Clevedon were quickly out of the blocks and straight from the kick-off broke down the right with Isaac Reid crossing for captain Kevin Camargo to head over.

On 4 minutes Lloyd Mills, one of 6 former Seasiders in the opposition starting line-up, took a free-kick 20 yards out and his shot was comfortably pushed around the post by Jason Mellor.

In the 5th minute Ben Bament crossed from the right to Dean Stamp who collected the ball and turned shooting wide of the far post.

Archie Ferris collected the ball on the right on 11 minutes and ran cross-field before passing to Daine O’Connor wide on the left who cut inside and unleashed a 20 yard-shot that went well wide.

Clevedon were nearly caught out in the 16th minute when a quick free-kick was played through for Pete Sheppard to advance one-on-one with Jason Mellor who came out quickly and spread himself to block the shot and clear the danger.

On 20 minutes a James Fisher run down the right was stopped illegally. The free-kick was played short to Ryan Gissing who advanced to the bye-line and crossed into the box where Aron Robbins was on hand to clear. Before the Clevedon defence could get back the ball was played forward to Dean Stamp who crossed to the far post where Ben Bament’s shot was well saved by Jason Mellor.

In the 23rd minute the ball was played into the box to Pete Sheppard who turned and shot with the ball heading inside the far post before Jason Mellor dived and pushed the ball around the post.

Manor Farm looked set to take the lead on 36 minutes when the ball was played over the top to Dean Stamp with only Jason Mellor to beat but the Clevedon keeper rushed out to narrow the angle and force the prolific striker to shoot wide.

The hosts did take the lead shortly afterwards. On 38 minutes the ball was played down the right for Ben Bament whose cross to the far post was headed home by Aron Robbins to make the score 1-0.

Clevedon looked to get back on level terms and in the 42nd minute the ball was played through the middle for Isaac Reid but his attempted shot was blocked and the ball cleared.

Half Time: Bristol Manor Farm 1 Clevedon Town 0

Clevedon started the second half positively. On 52 minutes Liam Knight made progress down the left before lobbing the ball over the defender to James Fisher whose cross into the box couldn’t pick out the advancing Isaac Reid.

In the 54th minute Kevin Camargo robbed Martin Stowell on the edge of the box and played the ball through to Isaac Reid whose shot went over the bar.

On 58 minutes a Glen Hayer ball found James Fisher on the right and he got to the bye-line before cutting the ball back to Isaac Reid on the edge of the 6-yard box but with the ball just behind him Isaac couldn’t keep the ball down and it flew over the bar.

In the 60th minute Dean Stamp played the ball through to Pete Sheppard who seeing Jason Mellor advancing towards him hit the ball across the face of goal and just wide of the far post.

Manor Farm doubled their lead on 72 minutes. A long ball from the back found Pete Sheppard on the left and he pushed the ball around Jason Mellor before shooting into the net from an acute angle to make the score 2-0.

In the 75th minute a James Fisher cross from the right found substitute Joe Ellis on the edge of the box and his shot went just over.

Clevedon deservedly pulled a goal back on 80 minutes. The ball was played into Joe Ellis in the box and as he turned his marker he was tripped. Daine O’Connor’s penalty rebounded off Ashley Clark’s left-hand post but luckily for Clevedon Isaac Reid was quickest to react and smashed the ball home to make the score 2-1.

Although Clevedon continued to push forward looking for an equaliser it was not to be and the hosts held on for the win.

Clevedon are next in action on Saturday 24th September when Cheddar are the visitors to The Everyone Active Stadium in the Second Round Qualifying of the FA Vase with a 3:00 pm kick-off.
