This was Clevedon’s sixth home game in a row and there has been no shortage of goals scored with this game being no different. There were 6 goals but unfortunately for the home supporters Clevedon ended up on the end of a 4-2 defeat.

On 7 minutes the ball was played down the right to James Fisher who passed inside to Toby Yeates whose shot went straight at Cadbury keeper Jamie Powell.

In the 14th minute Daine O’Connor picked up the ball on the left cut inside but could only shoot straight at Jamie Powell who then launched the ball forward to Simon McElroy whose shot was blocked by Clevedon keeper Ben Gast diving bravely at his feet.

On 24 minutes Joe Ellis worked hard to win the ball and found Jake Harris whose shot flashed just wide.

In the 26th minute a corner on the left was played short to Jake Harris who passed to Nick Lawton to unleash a powerful 25 yard shot that Jamie Powell did well to push away for a corner. Jake Llewellyn swung the corner into the box where it was missed by the Cadbury defenders and fell to Daine O’Connor who would surely have scored had he managed to get his head to the ball but unfortunately could not and the ball was cleared.

On 31 minutes Cadbury could have taken the lead when a corner on the left by Jamie Horgan found Andy Campbell unmarked at the far post but he sent his header wide.

Clevedon then managed to score the opening goal of the game for the first time this season. Daine O’Connor played the ball into the box for Jake Harris who fell under the challenge of Andy Campbell and referee Steve Oakey immediately pointed to the spot. Daine O’Connor stepped up and confidently dispatched the ball low to Jamie Powell’s left to make the score 1-0.

Clevedon were grateful to Ben Gast for keeping them in the lead on 39 minutes when Matt Huxley was played through with only Ben to beat and the Clevedon keeper stayed on his feet until the Cadbury man shot and then blocked the ball with his legs.

In the 43rd minute Kevin Camargo played the ball through to Daine O’Connor who took the ball around Jamie Powell but the angle was too acute for a shot. Daine then elected to turn back into the box and shoot with the ball blocked by the recovering Cadbury defenders when it appeared that the better option was to lay the ball back to Jake Harris.

Clevedon were made to pay for not having taken their chances when Cadbury Heath equalised on 44 minutes. Matt Huxley swung the corner to the far post were Andy Campbell rose above the home defenders to power the ball home with his head to make the score 1-1.

Cadbury nearly took the lead on 45 minutes when Jamie Horgan was allowed to dribble into the box and unleash a powerful shot across goal that Ben Gast did well to push away for a corner. Matt Huxley took the corner and swung the ball into the box where Arron Thorne’s glancing header went wide.

Half Time: Clevedon Town 1 Cadbury Heath 1

Unfortunately for the home supporters it was the visitors who made all the running at the start of the second half and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 57th minute. The ball was played in behind the Clevedon backline for Simon McElroy to collect and fire the ball across Ben Gast and into the far corner of the net to make the score 1-2.

On 61 minutes a Matt Huxley shot grazed the top of the bar and 2 minutes later the same player was involved again when he provided the cross for Simon McElroy to head wide.

In the 64th minute another Cadbury Heath attack saw Harry Paice unleash a shot that saw Ben Gast produce a good diving save.

Cadbury Heath went further ahead on 66 minutes when a corner from the right was not cleared and ended up at the far post where the unmarked Andy Campbell smashed the ball home to make the score 1-3.

Clevedon tried to get a back into the game and in the 71st minute Jake Llewellyn found Jake Harris who played in substitute Isaac Reid and his shot went straight at Jamie Powell.

On 73 minutes Clevedon managed to pull a goal back. The ball was played down the right to James Fisher who looked up to see Kevin Camargo arriving in the box and put in a perfect cross that the Clevedon skipper dispatched into the corner of the net with his head to make the score 2-3.

In the 77th minute Isaac Reid’s shot was blocked and the ball ran to Kevin Camargo who was unable to control the ball when well placed.

Clevedon kept pushing forward looking for an equaliser which left more space at the back. On 90 minutes the ball was crossed in to Harry Paice whose close-range shot was well saved by Ben Gast.

In the 2nd minute of stoppage time Cadbury Heath sealed the game. As Clevedon were caught up-field a long ball found Matt Huxley on the left and he smashed the ball across Ben Gast and into the far corner of the net to make the final score 2-4.

Clevedon are next in action on Tuesday 30th August when they travel to Hallen for their first away game of the season with a 7:45 pm kick-off while Odd Down the visitors to The Everyone Active Stadium on Saturday 3rd September with a 3:00 pm kick-off.
