The Girls were straight into action, what with the first game between Australia & China being a 10:30 kick off, which was followed by USA v France and then England v Kazakhstan with England notching a win (England 26 – 05 Kazakhstan).
After this the Girls enjoyed a bit of a break, allowing our friends Drybrook Girls to take their turn in being ‘Ball Girls’. During the break our Girls had lunch and past a bit of time watching the Men’s Sevens inside the main Twickenham Stadium. All of the ‘Ball Girls’ were issued ‘Support Staff’ passes allowing them a free run of Twickenham during the intervals.
Once lunch was over the Girls had another three matches to do, Australia v France, USA v China and England v Brazil, with the England Ladies winning again (England 41 – 0 Brazil).
Then another break followed by China v France, Kazakhstan v Brazil and Netherlands v Portugal. Drybrook finished the day with Australia v USA, Canada v Russia and finally England v South Africa with England Ladies coming out unbeaten all day with another win (England 22 – 0 South Africa).
All of our Girls enjoyed a great day out and witnessed some fantastic Sevens Rugby in the process.
Many thanks to the RFUW and IRB for their hospitality and the opportunity to take part in such a high profile event.

Cleve play hosts to Bristol Ladies...........
On Sunday 25th March, Cleve RFC played host to Bristol Ladies.
The day started out with a photo shoot followed by two Gloucestershire U13 & 15 teams playing games. These teams consisted of girls from around the County - Drybrook, Tewkesbury & Cleve – plus the help from a few Worcester Players.
Both the U15’s and U13’s played some exciting Rugby which was watched by both the Bristol, Wasps and Reading Ladies who all commented on the quality and standard all the girls showed.
After the final whistle it was a quick shower and bite to eat before settling down to watch Bristol Ladies 1st XV play Wasps Ladies and Bristol’s 2nd XV play Reading Ladies.
Both games were quite physical encounters. The speed and hits going in were something that had to be seen to be believed with both Bristol teams leading going into the break
1st XV 17 – 07
2nd XV 13 – 0
The second halves were just as impressive and physical.
Final scores
1st XV 27 – 17
2nd XV ?????
Tries came from Sally Tuson (x2), Marlie Packer (converted by Sarah Graham), Kim Oliver, Sarah Graham.
All involved in the day thoroughly enjoyed themselves and a massive thanks to Bristol Ladies Rugby for bringing their fixture to Cleve RFC!!

Sunday 11th March saw the first 'revamped' Cleve 300 Club draw.
Officiated by Neil Gapper and Paul Dolan in front of a full bar after the Mini's and Junior's matches the 109 existing members of Cleve's 300 Club had just over a 1 in 34 chance of winning a quarterly cash prize.
Now those odds might not sound headline grabbing but when you consider that the chances of winning the National Lottery are 1 in 13,983,816, the chances of being struck by lightning are 1 in 576,000 and the likelihood of Chairman Andy O'Donnell refusing a pint after a match are 1 in 1,000,000,000,000 the odds of winning with Cleve's 300 Club seem a whole lot BETTER...!
Winners
First Prize of £500 goes to Martin Pearce
Second Prize of £250 goes to Christine Price
Third Prize of £100 goes to Nye Lewis
Well done to the winners and to everyone who contributes to the Cleve 300 Club. If you are interested in joining, for just £5 a month, please refer to the 300 Club tab at the top of our home page or speak to Neil Gapper or John Tasker.

ENGLAND AND PREMIERSHIP RECOGNITION FOR PRODUCTS OF THE CLEVE JUNIOR SECTION

His elevation alongside other Cleve boys plying their trade in the Premiership / Championship : James Phillips(Exeter), Ryan Davis(Wasps), Redford Pennycook(Newcastle), Will Davis (Bristol), Jack Tovey (Bristol), plus numerous others dotted around pro and semi-pro National League clubs is a fabulous advert for the coaching and player development taking place at the Club.
