Cliffe FC rocket into the Third Round of the East Riding County FA Qualifying Cup with a bang after a 9-0 dismantling of Withernsea AFC.
Hugo Delgado writes…
After making the long trip to Withernsea, Cliffe FC started super bright as Lee Carter
fired the visitors into a 1-0 lead. Tom Hogg’s tenacity saw him nod the ball past the oncoming Withernsea ‘keeper leaving an easy tap in to make the score 2-0. Chris Jackson made the score 3-0 to Cliffe, neatly walking the ball over the line.
A horrific clash of heads of Withernsea’s forward and Scott Birch
, which made a horrible cracking noise, saw both players ko’d temporarily but thankfully left to continue relatively unharmed. Both players finished the 90 minutes and Birch now has a nice egg on his head to show-off.
Cliffe went into the interval 4-0 ahead after a sparkling Hogg run saw the ball break for Jackson to neatly place the ball into the net. HT: Cliffe FC 4-0.
Again, Cliffe began the second half brightly with Hogg grabbing his second goal to make it 5-0. Hogg sealed his hat-trick with a strong header to make the score 6-0 as Cliffe searched for more goals. Carter was unlucky not to improve his tally, scoring two disallowed goals, one of them a cracker of a finish into the top corner. Paul Tanton
also had a goal disallowed before neatly finishing off a chance left-footed, 7-0.
The only damner on the game was the sending off of hat-trick man Hogg, retaliating after been kicked-out at by the big Withernsea #14. Both men were given their marching orders and an early shower.
finished inside the six-yard-box to made the scoreline 8-0. Jackson grabbed his hat-trick goal, rounding the ‘keeper and again walking the ball over the line, 9-0 FT.
A very “professional” performance from Cliffe FC to see off Withernsea AFC III. The only negative has to be the Hogg red card. Credit goes to Withernsea for not giving up through-out the match and being gracious in defeat.
Cliffe FC return to league action next weekend and already face a season-defining fixture as they travel to face early season trailblazers Stamford Bridge where a good performance and result will be the requirement.
