Cliffe FC register their first ever win over Heslington with a confident 4-1 away win, Andy Kirkham’s deft chipped finish the pick of the goals.
Hugo Delgado writes…

Cliffe FC raced into a 1-0 lead within the first 90 seconds when a Chris Jackson corner was directed goalwards by Scott Birch for Kev Taylor to poke the ball into the net from one-yard, typical poachers goal. Heslington’s biggest threat to Ally Harris’ clean-sheet was no-surprise; the booming Delap-esque long throw from their skipper. Cliffe were pleased to welcome back Alan Jackson and Ian Beckram to their ranks and Alan’s link-up play with younger brother, Chris, was invaluable through-out the match. Beckram came mightily close with a lob over the keeper that bounced wide and the Heslington ‘keeper made a double-save to keep the score 0-1. Keith Tiplady had to make and unplanned change as Dave Reasbeck had to be replaced by Andy Kirkham due to pulling up with a hamstring niggle. HT: Heslington 0 – 1 Cliffe FC.

For all Cliffe’s possession and threat in the first half, Heslington drew level within the first 5 minutes of the second-half scoring from a corner and denying Harris his clean sheet. Just like last Saturday, Cliffe instantly replied and restored their lead as Chris Jackson’s challenge on the ‘keeper saw the ball drop for Kev Taylor to neatly slot the ball into the open goal to double his tally and make it 2-1 to Cliffe.

Heslington’s trademark long-throws continued to be their biggest threat. Beckram also found himself also on the end of some trademark challenges he’s become accustom to in a Cliffe shirt. The all important game’s forth goal was scored by Cliffe’s Andy Kirkham via a wonderful deft chip over the on-rushing ‘keeper to make the game 3-1 and no way back for the home side. For all his hard-work Chris Jackson scored a deserved goal, rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home at a tight angle and celebrating in a Gareth Bale-heart fashion making the final score 4-1 to Cliffe FC.

Cliffe FC move up to 4th place in the York League Division Two table. Next week they travel to face the test of table-toppers Aviva.
