The best way to keep up to date with Clifton All Whites

9v9 summer friendlies league - All whites U11s White 3 - 2 fernwood foxes

2 months ago By Ray Smithson

Knowing our opponents very very well and already having had our one and only 9v9

friendly against them, which resulted in a 4-1 loss we knew we would be up against it!

Trying out a 3 2 2 1 formation in order to keep the midfield concentrated with our own players, we prevented Fernwood from playing their free flowing football. Although a practice league a result against fernwood would create confidence and a platform to build from going forward into the following matches.

We also tried out the lads in various positions less familiar to them under this new format including Oli cairns playing upfront and right back, jakey centre mid and upfront and we also had two “trialists” really showing their quality in their first match with our lads working hard for the team and fitting in beautifully, defending strongly when needed and bringing the ball confidently up the pitch, well done lads!

We took the lead on the fourth minute as Lewis and Bailey worked very well on the left and centre midfield, finding leo who smashed a strike off the crossbar for the ever ready Dylan to pounce on the rebound first and bury it! ⚽️

On the 12th minute we were caught wanting at the back and a nice layoff from one fernwood lad found his teammate next to him and this gave Leon no chance after limited shots against him to this point which he had dealt with with no problem ??‍♂️.

Leon really saw an opportunity in the format to practice his accuracy from goal kicks without a retreat line and did a fantastic job!
Four minutes later however Stanley at right back saw a tiny gap for a low and direct through ball to release Dylan, it sailed through the defence Dylan put the accelerator down and slid the ball beautifully past the keeper! ??⚽️

We went in at half time 2-1 up and again knew what was coming!
Fernwood came back with a refreshed focus and challenged harder all over the pitch which our lads were up for, archie and Oli Sturman working well together to match them on the left hand side whilst they pressed, all the lads were desperately defending a number of Fernwood corners and clearing the ball from danger, The new lads, Joel and Leon particularly being brave getting to the ball first and putting their strikers off in order for a number of chances they had to go begging over the bar!

We then saw a long looping ball beat our back line towards the corner flag and in a similar fashion to their first Oli Cairns found himself with two men to mark and Fernwood hammered one home ??‍♂️

With Matthew, Bailey, Jakey, Dylan and Leo now back at full tilt going forward we could pressure them again, a great battle in midfield ended up in a throw to all whites on the left Dylan saw jakey, who sat back and delicately cushioned a header straight in to path of leo running in who took a second to compose himself and lobbed it high over the keeper and it dipped wonderfully into the net! 3-2 All Whites! ☄️

A final few rolls of the dice and a couple of corners against with a “trialist” heading away the first and flicking out the second! A free kick at the death had us all ???? and the team worked with each other again to prevent the equaliser!

MOM Stan the man ⭐️
Massive praise for the two debutants????
And proud as always of the group we have!
Well done boys!
