The photograph was sent in by Eddie Lambley. Eddie was one of the original players from the team that went on the Whitsun tour to Holland representing Clifton All Whites. Attached is a pic of Clifton All Whites from 1964-65 season.
It was taken at Colwick Crossings ground at the cup final between CAW and Parliament Street Meths. We lost this match 3-0.
It was just before the last match of the season, at the same ground and against the same team. It was the title decider – CAW had won all their matches and PSM had won all their matches except for a 0-2 loss against CAW earlier in the season. PSM were leading 2-0 with five minutes to go, when Alan Perry, playing on the left wing scored two goals to make the final score 2-2 and CAW league champions.
The line up is:
back row left to right: Andy Wray, Iain Walsh, Michael Dilnot, Derek Holloway, Terry Holloway, John Perkins (with Bill Norwell behind on the left and Dick Lambert on the right).
front row left to right: Steve Holder, Kevin Flynn, Eddie Lambley, Terry Moseley, Alan Perry.
Eddie says" The pic I have sent was one of a few taken of the players that went to Holland in 65. It was a mixture of two different All Whites teams that were a year apart in age and played in different age related leagues.
In Holland there was a mix up and we were put in the under-18 competition instead of the under-14 competition. We lost all the matches but won the Sportsman Trophy. There was a really good picture taken at the time of Kevin Flynn (our smallest player) standing against one of our oppositions who was the tallest player in the tournament.
We did win a friendly match against the Dutch host side, Marathon, who came to Clifton the following year. We went back in 1967 and also in 1995 as a over-the-hill team!!!"
Many thanks Eddie Lambley
