Clifton Under 14s 4-2 Wilford Lions

1 month ago By Ray Smithson

U14 Sat Winter Div 3 Red

Norman Archer Memorial Ground NG11 9HT

Green Lane, Clifton NG11 9AZ

On a blustery morning we welcomed the only 100% record left in the league, Wilford had scored 25 conceding 5 coming into it.
The 1st half was the perfect performance, strong in possession and working even harder without it (hill runs working their magic). Gerrard playing up a year against quality opponents set the standard, what a mature performance. Played in 3 different positions and looked at home in all 3.
Dan's (former Lion) distribution from goal was causing constant problems down the left with Chris as seems to be normal now running the fullback ragged. Chris won a corner that skipper Harry took, it fell kindly to Zohaib who took a touch and finished into the right corner 1-0
Soon after another corner which seen the same two combine to make it 2-0.
Ashton claims a touch, which Zohaib agreed with until he was told it was Ashton's goal.
Unlucky Zohaib.
Louis then decided to get in on the act picking up a loose ball and driving into the bottom corner from long range 3-0.
Jake was put under pressure as Wilford came hunting for a lifeline, Jake stood his opponent up until Louis and Gerrard got back to help, winning the ball back we went forward.
Louis getting fouled, but bouncing back up "advantage" was called, Louis with the nutmeg before finding Chris who in turn found Louis again the finish was class 4-0.
The second half was always going to be tough and Wilford got an early goal to test our nerves.
The lads showed great game management to calmly play the ball around, sideways, backwards and forwards with purpose.
Wilford got another with 8 minutes left when the ball went straight through a hole in the corner of the net, after the confusion a very honest Dan said it was a goal. 4-2
Now the tails were up and another chance seen a shot scuffed and we'd got away with it.
Chris almost put it to bed dribbling past 4 players and the calm finishing of recent weeks evaded him as he passed it straight to the keeper.
The final whistle ended a brilliant game with us coming out 4-2 winners.
Our opponents will be there or there about come the end of the season, on today's display so will we.
Lion Tamers? Time will tell....
