Down by the trent the wind was howling around us like a hurricane during warm up! It calmed down a little during the match, but either way it hadn’t affected the lads, we were wide awake and sharp from the start causing lots of trouble for WB to deal with.
Four minutes in and Leo flicked the ball over the defenders head spun around him into the box and on the half volley smashed it into the roof of the net.
At 12 minutes Kai jinked through a gap, stormed in on goal but was taken down, he calmly stepped up and buried the penalty!
3 minutes later and another great run by Kai led to an opportunity for another bullet and lashed it home again.
3-0 and cruising...however let’s not say WB can’t be dangerous we know they can and Stan and Joel had been absolute rocks up to this point however a smart through ball and run beat out offside trap on this occasion and the opposition striker slid it into the far corner as he broke into our box, 3-1.
Half time came at quite a poignant moment as we were under a bit more pressure for the last ten, Alfie making a couple of great saves and holding the ball nicely!
We really had moved the ball well our midfield of Oli S, Jakey, Archie/Oli C and Lewis/josh really had put a shift in for the team winning lots of 50/50s, making great triangles and offering options at all times, passing into the open areas where needed out wide, slipping silky through balls in and whipping deadly crosses in, all round great performance!
Second half and this continued, however after the final ten of the first half WB came out in a similar fashion for the first 10 of the second, we put Lewis into the back two on the left hand side where the WB danger man was and he was outstanding. Speed to recover from unsuccessful offside traps with last ditch slide tackles to prevent shots, jockeying out wide where he held his ground made the challenge and came out with the ball every single time but also in classic Lewis fashion he drove us forward immediately, always found a white shirt and began our attacks!
Because of this style from the team Leo penetrated their defence twice more one on the end of a through ball and once after taking on a couple of the opponents.
