U11 Blue 3-3 West Brdgford Sabres U11

Bryn (2) Zephaniah POM : Megan

We started the day off with a minutes silence where both sets of players, managers & parents paid their respects to our fallen heroes. Thank you everyone.
We started off brightly and Bryn carried on from where he left off and bagged after 3 minutes after some great work by Izak.
The game started to go end to end with some great chances created by both teams.
On 23 minutes Matty and Bryn linked up amazingly to put us 2 goals to the good. Matty skinned 2 Sabres players before putting a delicate through ball to Bryn who steadied himself and slotted it home to score his 5th goal in 2 games.
We kicked on from here but just couldnt put our chances away.
2 minutes from half time and a mistake allows Sabres to pick the ball up and after some great passing the striker gets a one on one chance which he puts away despite Kians best efforts.
2 minutes later and Sabres break though again. A nice one-two gets the striker in who rolls the ball into the bottom corner and the scores are level on the brink of half time.
Second half and just like the first we get out the blocks fast. Megan is working her socks off in her first game of the season having endured a freak fracture to her wrist in training. Its was great to see her back out on the pitch. Without this sounding mean, I didnt expect her to work as hard as she did or create as many chances as she did having had a lengthy time out due to the injury. Very impressed with her commitment today and she earnt POM. Put the most workrate in out the whole squad.
With 2 of our 3 defenders dropping out the squad less than an hour before kick off due to illness, we had a make shift defence with Leo & Logan but they were solid especially throughout the second half. Battled like soldiers. Leo was a beast.
Zak & Mason completely controlled the centre of the park second half which was the catalyst behind Sabres lack of time in our half.
Matty, Dec & Izak were creating problems down the flanks, showing what skill & flare we have in our wide players.
49th minute and Zephaniah switches it on. He closes down the defender who panicks and Zeph takes the ball off him, cuts inside and then slots the ball into the near bottom corner & wrong footing the keeper to put us back in the lead.
1 minute later and he does he’s at it again. Skillfully going round 3 defenders only to put his shot too close to the keeper.
52nd minute and Sabres finally get into our half. A cross field pass isn’t cut out and the left winger controls it and fires a great shot across goal. Kian manages to push it onto the post but the striker follows the shot in and taps it home under the over stretched Kian to level the scores once more.
A minute later and Sabres put a nice passage of play together and come down their right but the shot is straight at Kian.
We press hard for the last 5 or so minutes. We push that much we have 7 corners but the ball just wouldnt fall kindly enough for us and the stubborn defending by the Sabres keeps up as bay. We hit the post twice and the Sabres keeper pulls of 2 fine saves to keep us at bay.
The game ends 3-3 and its another point on the board. We did enough to win the game but despite scoring 3 goals we just didnt take our chances at crucial times which came back to teach us a lesson. A parent from Sabres said that they cant believe theyve got away with a point there and not lost after all our pressing and possession but thats football amd thats why we love it so much.
Thank you very much today Sabres, good luck for the rest of the season.
