David Lynch Interview

Clitheroe welcome Workington AFC to Shawbridge this weekend for an FA Trophy 1st qualifying round match. Competing against a side that is a league above the Blues in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier, the game will be a tough one but in midfielder David Lynch, Clitheroe have a secret weapon.
21 year old Lynch who has played as captain during the last few games, played under Workington manager Gavin Skelton last season before moving to Clitheroe to sign for Simon Garner this summer. The midfield general spoke to Clitheroe’s website and is under no illusions that this Saturday will be a tough game; “I still know a lot of the players that are there and the manager helped me come on as a player during my time at Workington. They have a good loyal fan base and have an experienced squad so we know that the FA Trophy game will be difficult.”
Being an influential member of the Blues squad that is currently on an impressive run of only one loss in nine games in league and cup, Lynch believes that his side can match the Northern Premier side and he will make sure that it is not an easy game for the Cumbrian side; “It will be a tough game. If we apply the work rate that we have upheld during the last month there is no reason why we can’t give them a good game. Gavin Skelton is a technically gifted footballer and he instils this into his players too, he shares a similar ethos with our manager that means you pressurise the opposition and play football on the ground.”
Despite helping his side to 10th in the league, the player that has had professional experience with Burnley is not getting carried away and knows that a lot more hard work is needed if his side is to carry on climbing up the league; “The last few weeks have been brilliant. The manager never lost faith in us eventhough we didn’t have the best of starts in the league and winning four on the bounce is testament to that. If we win 8,9,10 on the bounce then people may start to take notice but at the moment we are staying grounded.”
On a personal note, Lynch has been playing exceptionally on the pitch and wants to carry on his good form alongside his teams all round good performances; “I’m really enjoying my game at the moment. I don’t think the lads have enjoyed me shouting at them as captain but I just want to win and so do all the boys. With the likes of Jason Hart signing and Stefan being on fire it is looking very promising. At the start of the season we were down to the bare bones but the squad is building up nicely now and we really want to keep pushing on.”
