Despite failing to score on Monday evening against Chorley, forward Sefton Gonzales put in a performance to be proud of.

When the Magpies back four walked off the field at the Macron, they knew they’d had a tough game, battling against the 6 foot 4 brick wall that is Gonzales.

On another night, the former Droylsden man could have had a hat-trick, after the striker missed a few glorious chances to get his side back into the game in the second half.

Looking back though, the forward with eighteen goals to his name this season reflected on the experience against Chorley in the Challenge Trophy Final. Hoping he will taste playing on the big stage on a weekly basis in the future.

“It was a great experience walking out of the tunnel at the Macron. It was definitely one of the best feelings I've had in football and hopefully it could be something to get use too in the future.”

Gonzales added; “It was a tough game and we knew it would be. I think we caused the defenders some problems and it was no easy ride for them.”

In recent weeks, the striker has been in good form, scoring two goals in his last three appearance, including the winning goal against promotion chasers Darlington 1883 a fortnight ago.

As mentioned earlier, the 23 year old fired a twenty yard shot against the post in the first-half and went through one-on-one with Chorley keeper Aaron Grundy, only to fire straight at the Magpies number one. Gonzales reflected on these missed chances as he continued by saying.

“I definitely I think if I would have scored any of those chances it would have given the whole team a boost, I think my first effort that hit the post was unlucky not to creep in and my second chance I think the keeper did very well to close down the angles.”

Over-night, Gonzales became an internet sensation, after videos emerged of him nut-megging a Chorley defender. A move that the striker calls ‘hotdog’…

“I do that trick all the time during training. I love sending people for Hotdogs. I’ve got many more tricks in my locker though.”

Clitheroe face ‘winnable’ games during the remainder of this month and April with eight games of the season to go. Gonzales wants to end the campaign on a high, by getting a good run going and lifting the Blues up the table.

“We've got some good fixtures coming up and I think we can put a nice run together. I’m confident I will hit my target aswell which will present a good season for us.”
