EYMET v DAMAZAN, Sunday 28th May
There were muted celebrations at Stade Bretou as Eymet swept aside a disappointing Damazan. Eymet had executed their task well but there was no sense of triumphalism as Damazan had a very bad day at the office, being skittled out for only 45.
Ladbroke’s have stopped taking bets on Skipper Horlock’s capacity to lose the toss so inevitably Damazan’s Gagan elected to bat.
Mr. Wides was the first on the scoreboard but in only the second over Nigel Jones jagged one away from Goffi and into the safe hands of Ed ‘Superglue’ Nicholson. Gagan started to play some classy shots but in the 6th over Nigel pinned him LBW in front – 19 for 2.
David brought on Richard Brown after his mean spell at Catus. Ex-Eymetois Mike Gear and Damazan leader Swarren pushed and poked the score to 36. However, it was Owais Mohammed and Tim Chancellor who broke through. Tim was tidy at one end while from the town end, Owais got turn and bounce. First Swarren was tempted out of his ground and Ed had the bails off in no time. Jetindra then followed suit off Tim with an identical dismissal. An over later Lytton was bowled by Tim. Then Owais produced a beauty of flight, turn and bounce, and had anchor-man Gear caught by Ed off the slightest of snicks. With Mike Gear’s capacity to bat through an innings, this broke the resistance of Damazan. Tim and Owais then ran through the remaining wickets. Hossain took a nice catch and Ed finished the wicket-keeping masterclass with the stumping of last man Lakhwinder. Wow! All out for 45 in only 18.2 overs. Tim and Owais both narrowly missed out on 5 wickets (thus avoiding bizarre initiation ceremonies with skipper Horlock). Keeper Ed, however, did manage 5 victims.
David promoted one or two of the ‘lads’ to give them a chance up the order but they didn’t seize on their opportunity. To be fair, Gagan, Jayed and Goffi didn’t bowl badly and each picked up a wicket. Nevertheless, Eymet were never at risk chasing such a low score, and it was David who led the troops home with an unbeaten 28, including some forceful lofted drives.
It took just 8 overs to reach 46 so the whole game lasted only 26 overs instead of a potential 80!
