ACCSO BLEVINS FRANKS T20 FINAL
Time for the bash-bash game, as Eymet lined up alongside Bordeaux and Catus for the South-West France cricket T20 Final. Stade Bretou looked splendid in the August sun with as fast an outfield that anyone could remember, so runs were expected. A great crowd turned out including ex-Pres, Tiger Tim, who had exchanged natty hat for battered cap to reflect his job as water boy for the day.
Eymet started against Catus and were put into bat. Ahmed Jewel
and Eloquent Ed Nicolson
opened brightly as Catus sprayed the ball about with 21 coming off the first 2 overs. But then Ahmed fell to a catch, followed quickly by Numan, and Eymet were rocked back. Owais joined Ed to push the score on and Eymet were back in control. But, alas, the Catus bowling became sharp and accurate, with Rahim to the fore. Ed was bowled for 24 and it was 46-3. Wickets then clattered, with injudicious shots and silly run-outs, Richard Brown
beating the ground in frustration after a “willwewontwe” run that went wrong. Eymet somehow collapsed to 80 all out in just 16.2 overs, a disastrous start to the day!
Catus opened up with Farouk and Pavil, the same combo that almost won the match in the qualifier. Eloquent Ed was having his normal chunter behind the stumps counting the number of successive balls that Pavil had missed, declaring him a pinch-hitter who could not hit. But Farouk was making easy progress at the other end and took a liking to the Eymet spinners. Pavil fell along with another but Eymet were never in with a shout as Farouk steered Catus to an easy win.
Catus win by 8 wickets
Eymet: 80 all out in 16.2 overs (E.Nicolson 24, Rahim 4-16, Karim 3-20)
Catus: 81 for 2 in 11.1 overs (Farouk 51 n.o., A.Shezad 1-12)
Under the rules Eymet now had to play Bordeaux, and a win with a high run-rate could still give Eymet a shout if all teams won just one match.
