The First Team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat away against last years runners up Knighton Town on Tuesday night.
In a close first half in which both sides cancelled each other out, Ashley Owen had the best chance in the opening 25 minutes. He turned well in the box but dragged his shot narrowly wide of the post. On the stroke of half time, Knighton took the lead. A long ball out of defence allowed their attacker to run through and send the ball over keeper Chris Brown and into the net.
The second half was very much like the first, both teams locked in a midfield battle where chances were few and far between. Knighton added another goal on the hour mark. Defender Daniel Lewis was shielding the ball out for a goal kick but was then pulled to the ground by the Knighton attacker, he collected the ball and played it inside for there striker to score at the second attempt. The referee was obliviously to the fact it was a clear foul and waved play on, even to the surprise of the Knighton attackers. Ashley Owen fired just wide moments after as we tried to pull a goal back and Ioan Humphreys blazed over from close range as we upped the pressure. Andrew Evans and Ollie Lewis were introduced off the bench for the final 20 minutes as we looked for a way back into the game. A clever free kick on 75 minutes involving Andrew Evans and Ger Jones caused havoc in the home teams defence and it was bundled in for an own goal with midfielder Ben Jones waiting to tap the ball into an empty net. We pushed on for the final 15 minutes but couldn't get the all important equaliser.
