Youngsters battle to victory at the Bay
Four 1st Team Debutants helped their side to a well earnt victory at Brookfield Drive.
A young Dinbych side gave an encouraging display in this pre-season friendly leading up to the testing Division 1 campaign ahead of them. Lewys Eden
made his First Team debut in the front row where he rotated with fellow youngsters Joe Davies
& Ben Jackson
to prop experienced hooker Geraint Madoc-Jones
whilst Aled Evans-Hughes
started at lock for the first time. In the backs scrum half Henry Davies
, wing Ethan Morris
and full back Jac Jones
also made their first team debuts. Gavin Rizzi
and Dafydd Evans
added much needed experience to the pack after missing most of last season. Both sides played with great enthusiasm but with obvious rustiness leading to many unforced errors in a free flowing encounter. They were equally highly competitive in the tackle and breakdown areas leading to several heated exchanges which nevertheless showed their commitment to winning a match with nothing at stake.
Dinbych could not have had a better start as they opened the scoring in the first minute after taking play to within five metres of the Bay line with prop Ben Jackson
touching down in the corner for an unconverted try after a relieving kick was charged down. They increased their lead five minutes later when full back Jac Jones
launched a counter attack from inside the Dinbych half. Good handling by the midfield backs then allowed centre Tom Seddon
to send fly half Owain Davies
over in the corner for an unconverted try. Colwyn Bay then reduced the arrears with a short range unconverted try following a period of pressure. This was soon cancelled out following a solid Dinbych scrum near the Bay line with Henry Davies
breaking quickly from the base to send right wing Aidyn Jones
over in the corner for Dinbych's third unconverted try.
Colwyn Bay began to edge the possession but were continually under pressure from Dinbych's aggressive defence which led to their fourth try when Ethan Morris
intercepted a wayward pass on half way to outpace the defence for a try converted by outside half Owain Davies
