Ravens Thump Sheffield
Woolley hat trick inspires Coalville to victory
The Ravens put in a sparkling performance against Sheffield FC in their last away game of the season. The game was watched by the biggest crowd of the day in the division bolstered by a large and vocal support from Coalville.
With the squad depleted by injuries and suspension Tom Byrne & Joe Hopewell made their full debuts whilst Reserve skipper Andy Handley was on the bench after some great performances recently. He entered the fray in the second half replacing Sam Saunders.
Coalville payed some great football all afternoon, knocking the ball around well and this paid dividends in the 10th minute as Luke Smithson fired in a shot on the turn from an Alex Dean cross after Byrne's initial effort had been blocked.
The lead lasted barely two minutes as Sheffield got back on level terms with James Gregory finishing a good move and giving Sean Bowles no chance.
The visitors then really turned on the style and with 24 minutes on the clock Nat Watson hit a low shot from the edge of the box past Jake Eastwood following good work from Smithson and Byrne.
With half time approaching the Ravens added two more goals. A Sheffield attack saw them hit the post but the rebound was cleared forward and Smithson put on the afterburners and calmly slot the ball home.
Jake Woolley was next on the scoresheet. He picked the ball up on the right hand side of the penalty area and curled a majestic shot into the top corner.
Follwoing the restart Coalville were in the ascendancy again. The ball was played through to Woolley and his pace took him away from the defence and he poked the ball past the hapless Eastwood to make it 5-1.
With 10 minutes remaining Sheffield were awarded a free kick just outside the box. The ball was rolled to Joel Purkiss who was given time to pick his shot and hit one into the top corner from 25 yards.
However, Woolley wasn't finished and he again used his pace to effect to get beyond the Sheffield defence and round off his third hat trick of the season with a well taken goal. This points him joint top of the goal scoring charts with 24 as we enter the final week of the season.
