Ravens Held To A Goalless Draw
Coalville gain a valuable hard earn't point.
Coalville made the trip to Barnsley to face Shaw Lane Aquaforce and came away with a hard earn't point.
With Nat Watson and Jared Holmes still suspended Tommy Brookbanks made a couple of changes from last weeks game against Leek Town. Lee Torr who had an excellent game and new signing Nialle Rodney came into the starting eleven and Tom Byrne and Jake Woolley dropped to the bench.
In bright sunshine the opening stages of the game were a cagey affair with both sides cancelling each other out for long periods but with 20 minutes on the clock Aaron Hooton was upended in the penalty area and referee Aaron Bannister pointed to the spot. Hooton picked himself up, but his penalty lacked any conviction and Ian Deakin in the Shaw Lane goal saved the kick. The ball rebound to Rodney but he couldn't get the ball out of his feet and it was eventually cleared much to the relief of the home side.
Coalville currently have the meanest defence at this level in the whole of the country and they showed why in the first had as they gave the Shaw Lane frontmen very little change.
Before the break Josh Morrall whipped a cross come shot across the box that was deflected just wide and Rodney made some space for a shot which he scuffed just wide.
The Ravens had an early chance in the first half with Alex Dean cutting in and toe poking the ball just wide with Deakin stranded.
From then on Shaw Lane were on top and putting The Ravens under a lot of pressure. They had a good chance from a corner which Wafula headed over and full back O'Brien hit a great shot which was held onto by Sean Bowles.
Another corner saw leading scorer Gavin Allott head just off target when he perhaps should have scored.
With a couple of minutes of normal time remaining Luke Smithson swung a cross in from the left which was met by Jake Woolley on the volley but his effort came crashing back off the post leaving the Coalville frontman wondering when his luck will change in front of goal this season.
