Ravens Frustrated By Injury Time Leveller
Watson goal cancelled out by James Lawrie
A very late equaliser from James Lawrie saw Coalville Town leave Keys Park with a point against the leagues in form team Hednesford Town. In truth The Ravens probably deserved all three points and the hosts were grateful for three superb second half saves from keeper James Wren to keep them in it.
With an a changed line up for the third league game in a row Coalville soaked up some early pressure and Matt Coton was forced into an early save as he tipped over Lawrie’s fierce effort.
Referee Wayne Barrett waved away Coalville’s appeal for a penalty after Daniel Creaney was pulled down in the box and soon after the big striker had the ball in the net only for the linesman’s flag to deny him. Despite plenty of pressure neither side created anymore clear cut chances in the first half.
Again in the second half it was The Ravens who pressed with Cleveland Taylor hitting his shot high wide and not so handsome. The best chance of the game came soon after with Jermaine Hollis intercepting a short back pass and as he beat Wren to the ball he to poked it beyond the keeper but also agonisingly wide of the goal.
Reece King has a good opportunity to score from close range but again the linesman was quick to flag and the Hednesford player was ruled to be offside.
Tom McGlinchey fizzed a cross into the six yard box but no one was on hand to apply the finishing touch and the the Coalville winger fired a shot in which Wren pushed away.
The goal that Coalville had been threatening came in the 76th minute as Kyle Bryant crossed from the left and Nathan Watson got the deftest of touches to glance the ball into the far corner of the goal.
Wren then denied McGlinchey and Watson with further excellent saves but not to be outdone Coton at the other end pushed away a fierce effort from Fitzgibbons.
Moment after the referee had indicated there would be three minutes added time a deflected shot fell kindly for Lawrie who fired past Coton from 20 yards for the equaliser.
The Ravens now have a break until their next game which is a home encounter with Stafford Rangers on 23rd January
