Five Star Coalville Thump Redditch
Adam Stevens men made it five league wins in a row after beating struggling Redditch 5-1 at the TRICO Stadium.
One change was made from the side that beat Racing Club Warwick in the FA Cup as Alex Dean replaced the injured Ryan Ebanks.
After a scrappy start the first moment of quality produced the opening goal. Tolani Omotola showed his strength to get on the end of a long ball and hold it up before laying off to the oncoming Tom McGlinchey, the winger cut inside onto his right foot and curled an inch perfect shot into the far top corner leaving the Reds keeper with no chance.
Just six minuets later Coalville had the ball in the net again only for it to be ruled out controversially. Kyle Bryant's deflected shot wrong footed Louis Connor who tried to keep it out with his knees but made a mess of it and the ball scrambled in off the post, the referee however deemed Omotola's challenge to be a foul as he went in with the Redditch keeper even though the ball was already in the back of the net and the goal was scratched off.
This seemed to inspire Redditch who put Coalville under a spell of pressure, the dangerous Shaquille Whittingham drove into the box before hitting a shot past the far post and then wide man then had a free kick deflected wide off the head of Dean Freeman. Max Smith-Varnam then had to be alert as he pushed Matt Bakers strong shot over the bar.
Coalville then came back as Alex Dean beat his man before rifling a shot at Connor who gathered the ball at the second time of asking. Dean then supplied the ball to Tim Berridge who twisted his way into the box before passing to Andrew Wright on the edge of the area, the midfielder hit a shot first time and sent the ball past Connor into the top corner to double the Ravens lead. Just before the break Tom McGlinchey met another Alex Dean cross at the back post but volleyed a good chance wide.
HT: Redditch 0-2 Coalville.
Ten minutes after half time Redditch gave themselves a lifeline as Coalville failed to clear their lines after the initial free kick had hit the wall, the ball was recycled back into the middle for the grateful Montel Gibson to head home unmarked at the back post.
This seemed to spur Coalville on who from then on took control of the game and pinned Redditch back for long spells. This pressure told when the impressive Wright dribbled down the left side of the area, cut back and crossed the ball towards the back post for Tim Berridge to head home and regain the two goal advantage.
Shortly after Andrew Wright went on himself this time after collecting the ball from McGlinchey he drove into the left hand side of the box hitting a left footed shot that Connor could only palm and the ball flew up and crept inside the far post to really kill the game.
Dan Creaney was then introduced from the bench and the big man hit a dipping half volley from long range that went just over the bar. Another substitute Lee Cox then combined with Alex Dean and the latter cut the ball back across goal for Tim Berridge to stroke home his second goal of the game to round off a comprehensive victory.
FT: Redditch 1-5 Coalville.
