Coalville Town Ravens U15's go into the next round of the League Cup with a ruthless 9-0 thumping to Melton Mowbray.
A ruthless performance this morning from the Raven’s U15s seen them through to the next round of the league cup thanks to 6 goals from Harry Mansfield.
Conditions weren’t great at Owen Street. Recent rain has seen the pitch take a battering.
Despite an early pitch inspection from the management, there was a no show from the appointed referee for the game. Special thanks to the Melton assistant manager for stepping in to referee the game. Also to the referee appointed doing one of our youth team games who kindly gave us a spare whistle.
After recent slow starts, it was empathized before the game to come out on the front foot and take control of the game early on. A couple of early chances were saved by Melton’s keeper, but persistence seemed to pay off in the 13th minute when a handball in the Melton area was spotted by the referee. Regular penalty taker Tom Luker saw his penalty saved and cleared for a corner.
It wasn’t long before he made a mend, Jacob Worrell’s throw found Harry Mansfield whose threw ball found Luker one on one with the Melton keeper. Luker calmly slotting home past the keeper.
A second Raven’s goal was only 4 minutes away. Mansfield again finding space through the Melton back line to find Owain Parker. His cheeky chip over the keeper showed calmness and class.
The ever persistent Tom Luker was causing problems throughout the game, his hard tackling found Mansfield on the left wing. Mansfield decided to cut inside and unleash a 25-yard effort which lobbed the goalkeeper to make it 3-0 with 5 minutes still to play in the first half.
The Ravens could have gone into the break 4-0 up. Owain Parker found himself one on one with the goalkeeper. Despite rounding the rushing keeper, his effort was blocked off the line.
At half time the message was to remain calm, keep procession and take more time on the ball.
Less than 60-seconds into the second half, Captain Tom Walker saw his effort tipped onto the cross bar by the Melton keeper.
The ever impressive Max Cowlinshaw was given the number 9 role as Owain Parker took a break. It took him 11 minutes into the second half to find the back of the net. Tom Luker again causing problems and feeding the ball inside the area for Max to finish.
Some fantastic play from back to front saw the Ravens go 5-0 up. Joe Page feeding Tom Walker who took up the right wing in the second half then found Harry Mansfield whose run inside was coolly finished off across the keeper and coming off the far post.
This was to be an impressive 12-minute goal fest for Mansfield who on 66-minutes brought down a long ball beautifully before turning and finishing. His 5th goal came 2 minutes later. A failed clearance inside the Melton area was met by a simple tap in.
His 6th and final goal came with 9-minutes to go. Tom Walker’s cross from the right wing found Tom Luker in the area, his control laid Jacob Worrell on the edge of the box, his shot was parried in front of Mansfield to wrap up a comfortable win for the Ravens who go into the next round of the league cup.
