In my view the biggest challenge for any community organisation is getting volunteers on board. A lot of time is spent talking about money but when you think about it the time of our volunteers is far more valuable. In fact you can have as much money as you like but with out volunteers nothing gets done! How we co-ordinate volunteers is critical to our future, particularly whether we decide to either keep the process casual or make it a bit more formal. 1. An organisation needs to Recruitment, Development (education etc), retain and reward volunteers. 2. Why do people volunteer? 3. What are the benefits of educating volunteers in their area of responsibility 4. What do people want in return for volunteering 5. How do we assess how our volunteers are doing and do we use that assessment for anything? Some points to bear in mind: a. Currently the club has around 30+ non-playing volunteers b. Of these volunteers about 7 are not formally involved in running one of the teams c. Some of the roles in the club are mandated by football rules [Post Edited Friday 25th of March 2011 03:15 AM] |

Be careful, some people have volunteered just to help their children play by keeping a team going and may only want the minimum developement i.e. those things they have to do to comply e.g. CRB, junior leaders etc. Forcing other things may alienate and push people away. Assessing how volunteers are doing may do the same. |
