The Poachers head to Compton Park on Saturday for a quick return fixture.

Cogenhoe United entertain Boston Town in their penultimate home game of the campaign, just nine days after we beat them 1-0 in Lincolnshire. Montel Dore’s goal six minutes before the break gave us the three points from that long midweek trip, but Boston looked a very decent side and a double is by no means a foregone conclusion. Jake Stone will be keen to end the season with a winning streak as we could finish as high as sixth still, although with Eynesbury playing tonight, that may well be seventh by the time our games kicks-off.
Boston Town have boosted their squad with some very impressive young players since Dennis Greene took over with Cameron Johnson catching the eye with a number of goals in a short space of time. Strong, sharp and with an eye for goal, it does seem surprising that he hadn’t featured for Boston United this season, while a number of The Pilgrims under-23 team have been playing for the Poachers. They also have a couple of Doncaster Rovers youth team players getting some work-experience and they have also been a big hit at Tattershall Road.
They have had just as hectic end to the season as the Cooks and are now two places, but thirteen points adrift of us, but will want to finish on a high after beating Sleaford Town 3-2 on Thursday night.
Last season’s game here came during the early stages of Cogenhoe’s revival of form and we cruised to a 4-1 win with Matt Long helping himself to a first half hat-trick. Jordan Nuttell pulled one back five minutes from the end, but a cracker from distance from Sean McBride sealed the win two minutes later.
After tomorrow’s game we still have two more fixtures to play, away to Leicester Nirvana in a game that is likely to be played on the 3G at Quorn AFC on Wednesday night (see the website in the week for confirmation) and then we finish things off at home to Deeping Rangers 48 hours later in a Friday night match.
Kick-off at Compton Park is 3pm and with the weather looking summerlike at last, it’s the perfect way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.
