Postponements galore, but a few games survive the wet weather.

PREMIER DIVISION

Newport Pagnell Town closed the gap on Yaxley with an emphatic 7-0 win over out of sorts Desborough Town at Willen Road. Tom Liversedge started the ball rolling after 29 and after his shot had been saved two minutes later, Fazel Koriya followed up to double the lead. Koriya grabbed his second from the spot three minutes into the second half, then he set up Taylor Orosz on 75. Orosz then saw his shot parried by the keeper and Adam Pryke followed up four minutes later. Luke Emery made it six on 84 and Koriya rounded off the scoring after being set-up by new signing Dom Lawless to complete his hat-trick.
Wisbech Town kept up the pressure at the top with a hard fought 2-1 win at Whitworth. The home side took the lead, but an Alex Beck double after 31 and 68 gave The Fenmen the points.
Wellingborough Town bounced back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Boston Town, with the visiting keeper making numerous saves to keep the score down. Justin Dowling played in Lloyd Buckby to slot home the first before Albert Akinremi took over with a hat-trick. The first came with a low shot across the keeper after Adam Speight had put him in, the second when he side-footed home Dowling’s low free-kick and his third he ran onto a ball chipped over the top.

DIVISION ONE

Pinchbeck United opened-up a sixteen-point gap at the top with a 1-0 at Harrowby United. Chris Shipley scoring the decisive goal for the visitors.

BUCKINGHAM SENIOR CHARITY CUP SEMI-FINAL FIRST LEG

Daventry Town travelled to Spartan South Midlands League side Winslow United and won’t be too disappointed with the 0-0 draw as they have home advantage for the second leg.

PREMIER DIVISION

A big game to kick-off the weekend and 225 people braved the rain at Outgang Road to watch Deeping Rangers entertain leaders Yaxley. It was likely to be a close game and that is exactly how it panned out with The Cuckoos extending the gap between the two sides with a 1-0 away win. Former Rangers player Matt Sparrow grabbed the night’s only goal after 12 minutes leaving Yaxley four points clear at the top and nine ahead of Deeping, but the Lincolnshire side have four games in hand.

Yet again the programme was decimated by the weather with heavy rain coupled with melting snow leaving a majority of pitches waterlogged.

PREMIER DIVISION

It was a great weekend for Yaxley with just two of their challengers playing and both suffering defeats. Second placed Newport Pagnell Town went down 2-1 at struggling Sleaford Town in a surprise result. Sleaford took the lead on 9 minutes with a bit of magic from Jack Pemberton, who flicked the ball up before volleying into the top corner. The Swans levelled the scores through Fazel Koriya’s deflected shot and they probably should have gone on to win the game, but after hitting seven a few days earlier, they just couldn’t take their chances today and The Green Army snatched a decisive second four minutes from time. Pemberton whipped in a low cross and George Couzens finished it in style at the back post.
Holbeach United remain fifth after slumping to a 1-0 defeat at in form Cogenhoe United. The home side made it five wins in a row thanks to Séan McBride, who headed home from Liam Tuck’s corner on 17 minutes.
St Andrews cruised to a 4-1 home win over Boston Town at Canal Street leaving Dennis Greene still looking for his first win as manager of the Lincolnshire club. Cameron Johnson was on target for the Poachers, but his effort was easily outweighed by a Sam Taylor double and efforts from Shay Brennan and Lewis Turland.

DIVISION ONE

Potton United are second following a 7-0 crushing of bottom club Stewarts & Lloyds. Gary Ansell Carter hit a hat-trick (33, 38, 77), while Danny Webb (45 & 54) and Aaron Murrell (86 & 90) both helped themselves to braces.
Irchester United made it back-to-back 4-3 wins as they saw off Huntingdon Town at Alfred Street. Alfie Taylor set-up Dan Spaughton for a tap in to give the Romans the lead, but Corey Kingston levelled after 18 minutes. Taylor put the home side back in front after good work from Josh Burge but Kingston struck again on 56 to make it 2-2. Left-back James Dickson put Irchester ahead for the third time of the afternoon before Taylor gave Ryan Lovell the chance to give them a two-goal cushion for the first time. Antonio Russo netted a third for Town five minutes from time but it wasn’t enough to salvage anything from the game.
