The first and reserve teams are both in action tomorrow, with further action coming up on Monday and Tuesday next week.

First up for the Tom Chaman’s team is the short trip to Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday. The Swans currently occupy 9th place in the Premier Division but have stuttered a little lately, with three defeats from their last four games as the season reaches its climax. There have been a lot of high points for our hosts over the last few months, with the run to the quarter-final of the FA Vase being a superb achievement and they have done the UCL proud, but sadly the trip to highly fancied South Shields proved a bridge to far for The Swans.
Despite those recent defeats, they have a habit of reminding everybody exactly what they are capable of and they have highlighted this with 6-0 home wins over both Leicester Nirvana and Sileby Rangers in their last ten games, so we can be sure of a challenge at Willen Road tomorrow. Dom Lawless has bagged 31 goals so far this season and is always a threat, while perhaps their most prolific marksman has been a player who started the season with us and has now moved on to bigger things after a relatively short stay at the Bucks club. Luke Emery had netted five times for the Cooks after missing the start of the campaign through suspension before moving to Newport, but his amazing 18 goals in 19 appearances put him in the spotlight and now Southern League Premier division outfit Biggleswade Town have snapped him up.
The Swans still have a few familiar faces in their squad and we could well be up against former-Cooks Stuart Smeathers, Oli Wilkinson and Elliot Sandy tomorrow at Willen Road. It was quite early in the season when we met at Compton Park and we put up a good showing against our The Swans, who were then sitting second in the table, before suffering the heartbreak of an injury time defeat. Lawless had given the visitors the half-time lead, but a Luke Emery spot-kick looked to have earned us a point. However, Newport broke away with seconds remaining on the clock and won themselves a penalty which another former-Cook Fazel Koriya, calmly tucked away.

The Reserves are at home tomorrow with the newly crowned Champions Lutterworth Athletic Reserves the opponents. The Athos sealed the title last weekend with a 2-1 win over Whitworth for their first silverware as a UCL club. The week before we had held them to a 0-0 draw at their place, but the point had pretty much sealed it for them on that day. Unfortunately Blackstone Reserves late withdrawal from the league meant we lost six points and ten goals from our tally and as a result we have dropped down to 4th spot, but with just a point separating three sides, a winning run to the end of the season could still see us snatch the runners-up spot, so still plenty to play for in the last three games for Jake Stone’s boys.

On Easter Monday, Tom Chapman takes his side to our local rivals Wellingborough Town for our penultimate game of the season and the Doughboys recent form is only matched by runaway champions Peterborough Sports. They have won all of their last six games and will be eager to complete the double over us after their 1-0 success at Compton Park on Boxing Day. Deven Ellwodd was the match winner that day with his 75th minute strike enough to seal the victory, In truth it was a poor showing from Cogenhoe that day, but unbeaten in six before the trip to Newport, we are also a different prospect these days and we are more than capable of reversing that result on Monday afternoon. A very familiar face in the Doughboys squad is recent signing Kieran Fitzgerald, who put pen to paper just before the season’s deadline from Cogenhoe. His season has been dogged by injury meaning we saw very little of the striker and the partnership of Matty Long and Ryan Dove had meant he had to settle for a spot on the bench for The Cooks. He has opened his account for Wellingborough with a goal in the 2-1 win over Leicester Nirvana at the Dog & Duck and his new side currently sit three places above the Cooks in 10th spot.

The action continues at Compton Park on Tuesday night when the Reserves play their final home game of the season with Olney Town Reserves our opponents. The Nurserymen lie in 6th spot at the moment and I’m sure Cogenhoe will be eager to avenge the 5-1 defeat they suffered at East Street earlier in the season, probably the only really low spot of a fantastic season for our second team.
