NORTHANTS F.A SENIOR (HILLIER) CUP-QUARTER FINAL
COGENHOE UNITED v PETERBOROUGH SPORTS

The Cooks welcome Peterborough Sports to Compton Park on Tuesday night as we look to make it back-to-back cup wins following on from our 2-0 Vase success over Leighton Town on Saturday afternoon. This game is in the Quarter-Final of the Northants F.A Senior Hillier Cup with our opponents enjoying a good start to their EvoStik Southern League season, sitting third in Division One Central after their switch from the Northern Premier League last season. On Saturday they made it back-to-back wins as they followed a 3-2 success at Coleshill Town with a comprehensive 5-0 home win over Thame United. Avelino Vieira (2), Jim Stevenson and Lewis Hilliard had all but wrapped it up before the break with four goals in a stunning sixteen-minute period, with Spencer Weir-Daley adding the fifth in the second half. They actually had a poor October before the Coleshill win, having lost four and drawn one, but they got themselves going again as eight goals in their last two games indicates.
The Cooks have never beaten Sports, although we have only met on four times since Peterborough Brotherhood Sports changed their name and progressed into senior football. 2015/16 was their first in the UCL and whilst sweeping to the Division One championship, they travelled here in the latter stages of the Knock-Out Cup and beat us 2-0. The following season saw them win the Premier Division by a landslide, but they couldn’t do the double over the Cooks. A much-weakened Cogenhoe eleven travelled to the leaders and we were actually relieved to only lose 5-0 that day, but it was different when we met at Compton Park in the new year with the Cooks at full strength and in form. Goals from Ryan Dove and Matt Long had made it 2-0 at half-time, but a Stuart Eason penalty and a good finish from Avelino Vieira gave the leaders a point in the second half.
Last season we travelled to Peterborough in this competition on an awful wet night and with Jake Stone constantly on his phone checking where some of his players were with ten minutes to kick-off time, this was destined to be a night to forget and that is just what it proved to be. Sports were in a bad run at the time and were struggling in the NPL and they used this game find their form as they rattled home seven without reply. To make matters worse this was also the night I picked up the Norovirus!
Hopefully this will be a different evening for Cogenhoe on all fronts and we can right a bit of club history along the way to a semi-final spot.

NORTHANTS SENIOR LEAGUE-WEST DIVISION
COGENHOE UNITED U18 v RAUNDS TOWN U18

The U18s take a break from their amazing F.A Youth Cup exploits as they welcome bottom club Raunds Town to Compton Park on Thursday night. This is only our third league game of the season and the last one saw us thrash Raunds 7-0 at their place, with the all the goals coming after the break. The lads need to make sure they are focused on this one to pick up the three points and not think to much about the Coventry City game that is just over the horizon, or the big win we inflicted on them recently as a wounded animal is always a dangerous one.
