Cogenhoe United Reserves manager Craig Hayward on their 3-1 win against Rothwell Corinthians Reserves:
"We made the trip to Rothwell for what we knew would be a good test on a scorching hot day!
We started really brightly and looked like we could cause problems and took the lead on 10 minutes when frontman Jonny Shakespeare was allowed to turn in the box, he calmly placed the ball into the far corner to put us in front.
Corinths had a fair share of the play without really troubling our backline although Joe in goal was called upon when Corinths did put us under the cosh with some good deliveries. As the half went on we wasted several good openings with our decision making perhaps not being at 100% but we did go two up just before the break when Jonny ran clear down the left before outrageously lobbing the home keeper from the tightest of angles on his weaker foot.
HT 0-2 and the message from me and Baves was simple, manage the game and the conditions which the lads did superbly. Again Rothwell had a lot of possession but we were very pleased with the work rate and shape of the team which is something we've worked hard on in pre season.
We managed to get a 3rd just before the hour mark when centre half Curtis Avery turned in the box and fired home. This gave us the chance to make a few changes and get everyone some minutes and rest a few lads in the heat.
The only disappointment from the afternoon was conceding on 93 minutes. A short free kick and we just switched off and Tom Gudyer finished well.
Great start to the season for us, a solid team performance and a great team spirit around the place. We head to Desborough on Friday night and will look to continue our good start.
Thanks to Corinths for their hospitality and best of luck for the rest of the season."
