FUTURE LIONS UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-RESERVE DIVISION
COGENHOE UNITED Reserves (2) 2 v BUGBROOKE ST MICHAELS (1) 2 Abandoned after 63 minutes due to a serious injury.
Cooks scorers; Shakespeare 18 Chipchase 39
Badgers; Daniel-Hall 13, 56
The game’s first effort at goal came from a free-kick on the left where Dan Powell drilled a low shot at goal, but Joe Evans always had his body behind it. Jonny Shakespeare and Joe Shanley battled hard around the edge of the box before Shakespeare turned and shot, but Luke Reeve dived to his left to get his hands to it and recovered himself to dive on it before anyone could take advantage of the loose ball, while Shanley saw a shot come off the top of Elliott Gillingwater’s head and go out for a corner.
The Badgers grabbed the lead on 13 minutes when Harry Lloyd was left free on the left and although he got his low shot on target at the near post, Evans really should have done better, but the ball bounced off him leaving Jamie Daniel-Hall to score from a point-blank range.
There had been one two fouls from the visitors and James Owen became the first player to be booked after a forearm smash on Jacob Cox after he felt he’d been fouled. Harry Chipchase went for goal with the free-kick, but it hit a defender on the arm and went wide. Chippy was adamant it should have been a penalty, but I felt that might have been a harsh decision from my angle. His annoyance was added to by the fact he put the corner straight into the side-netting.
On 18 minutes a move started by Patryk Cichosz saw Shanley play a great low ball across the box where Jonny Shakespeare nipped in to net with a neat finish that gave Reeve no chance at all. Cogenhoe were now looking good and Chipchase laid the ball square to Matt Johnson, but his shot from the edge of the box flew over the top. Daniel-Hall got up well to flick on and send Ethan Goodman clear, but he blazed his shot over the top when he had time to take it further and then pick his spot.
Chipchase chipped a free-kick into the box and Curtis Avery rose to win the ball in the air, but his header was just wide and then Cichosz tried his luck from thirty-yards out, but it hit a defender and went out for a corner on the right. Shanley took it and his out-swinger was met perfectly by Alex Lowery whose header beat the keeper with Harry Chipchase getting the final touch from about a foot out. 2-1 to The Cooks with six minutes to go until the break.
Shanley made a good run and pulled a low ball across the box, but it was a fraction behind Shakespeare’s run, then a Chipchase’s drilled free-kick was blocked and fell to Johnson on the edge of the box, but his first-time effort was over the bar. An Elliott Gillingwater free-kick was blocked with the rebound falling to Daniel-Hall, but his drilled cross was held at the near post by Evans and Cogenhoe went into the break edging it and deserving their lead.
Half-time; Cogenhoe United Reserves 2 Bugbrooke St Michaels Reserves 1.
A long Avery throw was flicked on by Chipchase and hit a defender for an early corner, but we failed to threaten from it. A ball over the top caught us out on our left though and Jamie Daniel-Hall had too much space and time and he used it well, cutting inside his man and firing a low shot just inside the post. Evans seemed to have got his body behind it, but it hit him and went over the line to level the scores after 56 minutes. Bugbrooke were now looking more of a threat and were enjoying more of the attacking play.
A couple of subs followed with Cogenhoe bringing on Liam Stone for Reece Sweeney and Bugbrooke replacing Marcus Dowman with George Gardner on the hour. Neither of them was to get a chance to get into the game though as it all came to a halt three minutes later. Curtis Avery appeared to misjudge the ball and put his head down to win but collided with Daniel-Hall just outside the Cooks penalty area. Avery lay flat out while the Bugbrooke player was able to get back to his feet after treatment. The ambulance was called with concerns over the impact to his face and worries about his neck and after a lengthy delay, young referee Callum Czajkowski made the decision to abandon the game. Cat was talking and hopefully the trip to hospital is just precautionary and he’ll be back playing in no time.
