Cogenhoe United Reserves manager Craig Hayward on their 1-0 win against St Andrews Reserves:
"Today we welcomed a young St Andrews side to Compton park.
It wasn't the greatest game from a neutrals point of view I'm sure but both sides enjoyed spells on the ball and it was very much a tactical battle.
The visitors started the better side and forced us back early on without troubling us too much. It took us until the 25th minute to really get going today but that's credit to St Andrews for how they set up
We gradually began to create chances with Coxy rattling the bar and Jonny firing over.
It was Jonny who netted his 4th of the season in the 38th minute that proved decisive.
In the second half we knew St Andrews would come at us and we had to be disciplined and credit to the lads we were exactly that!
Both sides had chances in the 2nd half but St Andrews had a lot of the ball and late on threw the kitchen sink at us.
All in all we learnt a lot today. The lads are willing to dig in when we aren't necessarily at our best and theirs a real desire to win games so we are delighted with the start we have made.
Good luck to St Andrews they are a really good young side that will do well this season."
