An early weekend review this week in order to get the admin out of the way before enjoying our Cricket Week Festivities.
Work has been going on in the last few days (and weeks) to get the ground prepared, the Marquee and bar set up and the surroundings looking their best. Huge thank you's to....Barry Edwards (Snr) for his work on getting the Ladies/Umpires changing facilities treated, Louise & Martin Addison for the flooring and internal fittings/decoration, Tom and Hayley Speakman for their work in keeping the outfield and surrounding areas neat and trim and of course Will, Rick and Steve for preparing what will no doubt be fantastic wickets for our County guests!
Back to the weekends games.
Unfortunately another difficult weekend overall with all teams playing difficult opponents and with availability tight we struggled to get the results we would have liked.
The 1st XI travelled to top of the table Sudbury and faced a team justifying their league position. On a hot afternoon CTCC struggled to contain the strong batting line up and Sudbury set a daunting target of 287 for CTCC to chase down in their 50 overs. Unfortunately like the England team CTCC struggled to get into their rhythm and ended up a chastening 155 runs short.
The 2nd XI were at home to Woodbridge & O.W. and also came up short. Batting first the 2's set an under par target of 175 which Woodbridge chased down with wickets and overs to spare.
The 3's took the short journey up the A12 to face Colchester Cavaliers in what turned out to be a very interesting match. Batting first the 3's managed a total of 122 which felt 25 light but then with some superb bowling from U15 Sam Docherty and U17 Glen Shuter CTCC bowled out the oppo for just 87. (The match report will be on the website shortly for all the details!)
Sunday saw the ones and two's both have difficult afternoons. The Ginger Juggernaught was away at Rayne and batting first they struggled to a low total of just 94 going on to lose by 9 wickets whilst the 2nd XI were also given a "going over " by Kelvedon and Feering at home losing by 164 runs. The fact 4 of the K&F team had played the previous day in their Two Counties Division 2 side shows the different approach to Sunday Div 5 cricket by ourselves and K&F ! (The match report will be on the website shortly for all the details!)
So now its on to the "pro stuff". Essex and Surrey 2nd XI arrive at Harefield tomorrow to begin their 3 day match followed by Friday's one day match between the 2 sides. The weather looks fair, the wicket looks great, the bar will be open as will the BBQ and I believe also an Ice Cream van. Truly something for everyone!
So pack your deck chairs and take a stroll to Harefield "The home of Cricket" (Essex edition!) and enjoy the week!
See you there!
