Hertford 5 – Colchester Colts 49
Colcester Colts Academy began their 2014/15 National cup campaign in emphatic style, despatching of a gallant Hertford side on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the Colts National Cup . In all, nine tries were scored, with two converstions added. Forwards and backs linked well throughout the game, and Colchester's fast paced attack matched with some audacious offloading meant that they were always on the front foot; at times Colchester's powerful forwards and nimble paced backs were punching holes in the Hertford defence with considerable ease. Credit must go to Hertford who's heads never dropped and kept their intensity up right until the final whistle was blown. A bonus from the coaches perspective was that the 22 man squad all made it through the match without any major injuries, and the attention now switches to the next round tie against Hitchin to be played at Mill Road on Sunday 23rd November.

Colchester U16B 34 – Ipswich 10
Colchester B faced a large Ipswich side in bright sunshine; in a fast and open game, Colchester opened the scoring through hooker Matt Hexley supporting a sweeping backs move and cutting inside. Laren Roper swiftly followed with another try after Jack O'Sullivan joined the line from the blind side wing, creating the extra man for an overlap. Colchester's third try of the half was a stunning individual effort from Gareth Sanders Crook who showed great upper body strength carrying most of the Ipswich pack over the line with him. Keenan O'Boy converted from under the posts. Colchester finished the half with another try out on the wing with Matt Hexley again finishing a backs move with great support.
Colchester made five changes a half time and this showed with the Ipswich wing opening the scoring. Colchester then got back into their stride with Alex Strutt bursting tackles on his way to the line. Great passing along the back line allowed Ben Norfolk a clear run to the line where he finished under the posts for Keenan O'Boy to convert. Ipswich fought back strongly and capitalised on a mistake by Colchester with their centre breaking clear. The game finished with Colchester on top, looking for a final score. Full Time: Colchester B 34, Ipswich 10.

Colchester U16C 36 – Thurrock B 24
Playing 13-a-side rugby, Colchester showed exceptional team spirit to overcome a three try deficit to triumph against a strong looking Thurrock side.
The home side got off to the worst possible start and conceded two tries in the first few minutes as the away side's quick backs exploited Colchester uncertainty and the space out wide to take the early initiative. To their great credit, Colchester did not buckle and had the majority of the possession and territory for the rest of the half. With the home forwards working especially hard to stifle the Thurrock threat, Colchester pushed hard but could not create a clear cut opportunity. A third breakaway score for Thurrock could easily have deflated Colchester but with the lineout working very well (hooker Niklas Woodhead giving second row Jimmy Mills and his lifters plenty of accurate ball) and with the forward work rate typified by the hard working Alex Daffron, play stayed within Thurrock territory thereafter. A close range score from Woodhead just before half time was the very least the first half performance from Colchester deserved.
The second half started in exactly the same way as the first with Thurrock scoring more-or-less straight away to again put some distance between the two teams. However, this was last time the away side really threatened and Colchester slowly worked their way back into the game. With the introduction of Matt Thompson and Mikey Johnstone making a difference, the home side developed play and started to create opportunities. Number 8 Luke Beattie and Jaigo Gardiner both scored two tries each and Scott Adams ran in from well inside his own half to complete a memorable comeback. Full Time: Colchester C 36 Thurrock B 24

Colchester U15 0 – Southend 51
In a keenly anticipated fixture Suffolk cup holders Colchester welcomed Essex cup holders Southend to Mill Road. Unfortunately injuries and late call ups to the Saints DPP meant that Colchester were without 11 of their starting 15 but the emerging talent stepped up to the plate and promised to give Southend a good game. The visitors gave the expectant crowd a display of highest order running the ball from every corner. Remarkably hardly a tackle was missed by the Colchester team but such was the skill and continuity of the Southend players that they still created a series of sparkling tries.
Colchester kept throwing themselves in to rucks and mauls and came close to scoring against the odds on several occasions but captain Ollie Hill’s drop goal attempts went just wide, Rob Parry was tackled just short and Abdul Goni was judged to be slightly offside as he was about to race clear after picking up a sweet grubber. Rarely have so many positives been drawn from a 51-0 loss but this was one of those days.

Maldon U14 48 - Colchester U14 B 7

Clacton U14 15 – Colchester U14C 31
Colchester started off very strong from the off with consistent pressure, The pressure was kept up throughout the first half by some superb scrums from the forwards winning all of their own plus the majority of Clacton's put ins.Consistent tackling from TJ (Thomas Jasinski), James Ashworth and Manny Wright saw the ball passed down the line again and again Clacton then put Colchester under a good spell of pressure only meters from their line and would have scored had the ball not been held up superbly by Tom Williams.
The second half was a much tighter affair with Clacton making some significant changes, Clacton then took full advantage of their subs and where able to put far more pressure on our forwards in the scrums . Colchester then had a period of good recycling lead by Nathan Linscott who put in a spell of strong play which helped turn the tide. Tom Williams and Jack Tilley where tenacious on the wings .Our only try this half came from a scrum down in Clacton's 20 with Elliot (no 8) popping up and dashing down the try line missing out on his second try the ball coming out to Charlie who scored his third which was converted. A very strong team performance making it 2 from 2 this season an excellent start
