Training for the new season is now under way with Coleraine Rugby Club’s Youth Section.
Sessions are every Monday and Wednesday evening at 6.45pm and the coaches look forward to seeing large numbers turning out each week. It is a great way to keep fit and get involved in a challenging team sport.
Youth Rugby Convenor Gareth McCallum is looking for players and people to get involved in the section. He said: “We have a great rugby section and we are looking forward to getting back to training and building on the success of last year.
“We have three teams at Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 age groups, competing in leagues and cups across the province. We need to see players down training, learning skills, keeping fit and having a lot of fun.
“We welcome everyone, whether they have experience of rugby or not. Many of our best players never touched a rugby ball until they came to the club, so experience is not necessary.
“What we want are young people who want to get fit and take part in what is arguably the best team sport going. If you have the enthusiasm we have the coaches to develop the skills.
“All our coaches are trained and accredited with the IRFU and Ulster Rugby so that we can provide the best quality coaching in a safe environment. We want players to come to the club and to stay with the club.”
Running youth rugby takes a lot of effort and helping hands are always welcome.
Gareth said: “We are always on the lookout for coaches to help in training and also people to help manage and run the section. So if you are a former player who wants to develop coaching skills or a parent or friend who wants to help out in supporting our activities, please get in touch with me through the club. You will be very welcome.”
