Coleraine demolish Donaghadee in league

62-0 win and bonus point with one league game to go

Coleraine returned to winning ways with a 62-0 demolition of a struggling Donaghadee side on Saturday afternoon.
The 'Cookstown' sponsored Coleraine First XV made a number of changes to the squad that lost narrowly to Grosvenor last week, using the opportunity to introduce some young local talent. Youngsters Peter Wisener, Daniel McCreadie, Mac O'Neil, Andrew Wisener and Matthew Leighton all started the game and brought a freshness to the squad.
Coleraine Head Coach Richard Boyd said: "Credit must go to Donaghadee who stuck to their task and gave their all throughout the game. Coleraine were extremely clinical today and we will be looking for the side to finish off their season in style at home against Randalstown next week."
In the game on Saturday, Coleraine started at a blistering pace with Alan Clarke opening the scoring after good go forward ball from young prop Mac O'Neil. 5-0
Clarke scored his second of the game after a well worked chip kick from Captain Mikey Poskitt and an excellent finish underneath the posts. 12-0
From a quickly taken penalty and good link up play between Rory Strang and Mikey Poskitt, Alan Clarke secured his hat-trick inside the first quarter of the game with a well taken finish in the corner. 19-0
From a Donaghadee turnover Alan Clarke pounced upon the loose ball and after some good footwork secured his fourth try of the game. 26-0
Following a blistering run from winger Steven Callaghan and an offload from Mikey Poskitt the impressive scrum-half Matthew Leighton scored his first ever senior try to take the score past the thirty mark. 33-0
A good break from the dynamic Daniel McCreadie led to a try for full back Brian Cochrane who was on the receiving end of a superb flick pass from Brian Hughes. 40-0
Good footwork and pace from winger Steven Callaghan led to another try for Mikey Poskitt who scored in the corner. 45-0
A strong carry from DD McAllister and good link up play between McCreadie and Clarke led to a try for Mikey Poskitt, the last try of the half. 50-0
The second half started in the same manner as the first with Mikey Poskitt scoring early on with another break from turnover ball. 55-0
Matthew Leighton scored his second and his team's final try of the game after showing good pace to finish underneath the posts. 62-0
The referee brought proceedings to an end after 50 minutes and the visitors returned home with the full five points.
This weekend Coleraine entertain Randalstown in their final fixture of the season and it will be an opportunity to celebrate winning the league and gaining promotion to Division 1 of the Kukri Ulster Rugby Championship. The Seconds are also at home against Portadown and a game that could well seal the outcome of the league.
