Stalwart Edwards to ply his trade at the dizzy heights of Blackburn RUFC

Transfer News:

As the end January transfer window edges, Colne can confirm that one of their own will be leaving before the window shuts on January 31st.
Stalwart and current Captain Luke Edwards has decided that it was time to test his skills in the dizzy heights of the Northern Division. With a career spanning 9 years at the club, Luke progressed from a stick thin Colt back in 2008 to now being current captain that can change games on the back of one of his usual barnstorming runs.

Almost certainly the first name on the team sheet here at C&N, Luke will ply his trade only 20 Miles down the M65 at Blackburn, a team that have been in constant contact with Luke for a number of years. They sit 4th in the Northern Division, 3 points off second place, which would enable automatic promotion.

Having spoken to Luke on his decision to climb the RFU leagues, he said ‘I am at a stage where I would like to test himself a bit more and see what the game is all about higher up. By no means will I distance myself from C&N as it has been a huge part of my life for the last 9 years’.

First Team Coach Tindall said ‘having lost Tom Steer and Ryan Sumner at the start of the season, (to Fylde and Ribb respectively), Luke will be a huge loss to not only the Team, but to the club as a whole. I have no issue will the lads trying to better themselves and test their skill, fitness and nerve at a level much higher than Colne. On behalf of all at Colne & Nelson, I would like to firstly thank Luke for the work, effort and time he has invested in the club, not only on the pitch but in the work around the club (fencing around the containers, flagging at the pitch side of the club). We wish Luke all the best at Blackburn and would welcome him with open arms for any return.’

Hagreaves added, 'its time for others to step up and fill some very big shoes. The club will continue to develop and nurture its home grown talent including a very successful Junior Colts side that will soon come of age and be eligible for Senior Rugby.'

Lukes last game will this Saturday when the 1sts are at Home to Trafford MV. The 2nds travel to nearby Bolton. All support for both teams will be much appreciated and Im sure the clubhouse will be full as we wish Luke all the best.
