The Orange Army marches on!
A thoroughly professional performance today for all those that proudly wear the Orange of the Colne Valley Under 14s. We were always the stronger side but the effort, commitment to the cause and the joyful swagger that the girls all played with really was great to witness. As was, once again, the incredible support that came from the sidelines.
We started with our usual 4-4-2 formation. "She's Our Nutty Keeper, Our Love For Her Grows Deeper, She Super Rach, She's Super Rach" adopted her usual position between the sticks and she was, as always, wonderfully supported by a rock solid back 4 which consisted of, from left to right, Mighty Mia Baker, The Popstar, H-Bomb and Cookie...........our midfield started with "It fun to play with the R H E A" on the left (who I was a bit worried about as her Mum had warned me to say that she wasn't very well), Layla "Bestie" Best on the right and Super C lining up alongside Emily Hutt, Emily Hutt, she scores loads of goals Emily Hutt. Upfront we fielded "Evie Kenevie" with "The Mighty Quinn".
The bench looked incredibly strong and boasted: Super Alice Endley, Morgz, Bethie Boo and the wonderful model of effort and consistency who is Erin Wreford.
Well played girls, I was very pleased with that performance. I decided to play Quinny in a more advanced position as I believe she possesses the technique and touch to set up Evie in a more advanced position and also to have some shots on goal herself. As mentioned previously I was worried about Rhea as her Mum had done exactly the right thing and told me Rhea wasn't feeling too well.............well you'd never has guessed..........Rhea played on the left like Leroy Sane does for Man City! One storming run took her past two defenders and she pulled back the goal to Quinny who calmly and wonderfully curled the ball into the bottom corner. A brilliant finish that superbly finished off Rhea's excellent approach play. The silk and steel combination of Caitlin and Emily worked very well today I thought too, Emily causes havoc with her lung-bursting runs forward and she was great today, total commitment and passion as always but I felt that Caitlin won lots of ball today as well as always using it well when she had the ball on that magical right foot of hers. Layla was very strong with her back to goal and the right midfield slot seems to suit her, well played today Layla.
It has to be said though that the more attacking six of the side can only weave their magic because of the platform provided for them by our keeper and back 4. 6 different girls played across the back 4 today and all of them put in a great shift, all of them unselfishly working their socks off to repel any attacks that Camberley mounted. Mighty Mia is a cracking full back and has never been done for either pace or skill, Cookie was her usual committed and powerful self at right back, and any combination from Poppy, Hannah and Erin is easily the best centre partnership in our league and Bethie Boo came on at left back and also did a great job, well done Bethie Boo.
As is usual we shuffled the pack. Morgz came on to play on the left and her effort and tenacity is very heart-warming to watch, for someone so small she really does get stuck in and she was joined by Alice. Alice is a coach's dream, I genuinely feel I could put her anywhere on the pitch and she'd do a great job but I think it's best just to let her express herself, she's a rare player in that she combines; complete effort, fearlessness with lots of end product...........so it was especially well received when Alice smashed it into the top corner to make it 2-0. Emily deserved to score too but her clever little chip hit the bar!
2-0 at half time and i don't think anyone thought Camberley were going to come back from that. They didn't. We never looked like conceding. Erin, equally at home at centre half as she is in the heart of midfield, did a great job next to Hannah or Poppy....Layla worked so hard down the right and we looked such a decent team.
Evie is really playing well up front and should never let her head drop if she misses the odd chance, what's important is that she's put herself in the position to have an effort on goal. She took her goal excellently today, punishing a goalkeeping error. Well done Evie, just keep working the entire back 4 and that'll create chances for yourself and others.
A huge special mention has to go to Emily. I asked her, when she had her rest "Can you do me a huge favour?" rather than saying "What is it?" like so many do, she smiled and said "Yes"..........I then asked if she could cover in goal so Rachel could have a run out, Thank you Emily for agreeing to this. So Rachel had a run out, she was meant to play left midfield but let's not split hairs.
So well done girls, that was our 11th league game today and we've won 9, drawn 1 and lost 1 and we're where we deserve to be, on top of the league.
Man of the Match today went to Rhea, I hope she read this, today's performance should fill you full of confidence as the season progresses Rhea. It wasn't just the dazzling wing play but it was also the way you fought to win the ball back and support the team. A huge "Well Done" to you!
So great performance to all 14 who did their bit for The Orange Army today. Let's now have great training session on Tuesday where everyone, myself included, put in 100 per cent and gets us as best prepared for Sunday's game v Claygate and then let's PARTAYYYYYYYYYYYY
